Torn Tricep Tendon Advice

Looking for advice on recovering from a partially torn tricep tendon (at the elbow).

Was sore after a arm-focused weightlifting session. Gradually got worse. After a week my elbow was swollen, painful and warm to the touch. Couldn't even lift a coffee cup. Less pain and more strength a couple of weeks later, but still can't bend or straighten elbow all the way. Doctor would rather do about a month of physical therapy before considering surgery. Any advice on re-hab, PT and a good brace would be appreciated.

When you say partial tear how much did the doc say? A little torn or mostly torn?

He didn't say. Unfortunately, I didn't ask. We discussed getting an MRI, to determine the extent of the damage, but mutually decided to hold off. If important for re-hab considerations, I don't think it would be a problem to get one scheduled.
