Tell me your first hand or second hand knowledge of cataract surgeries.

I have been given 3 options to the surgery with different price points...and will need to be re-examined in a day or two.....thinking I will still be a cataract surgery candidate.

Just opinions from folks who have had it done is best or close family members.

Thank you.

Re-examined in 2 days? So you were seen by an optometrist who is now referring you to an MD for evaluation?

Be sure that you actually need the surgery. Many optometrists get large kickbacks for referring patients for cataract surgery, especially if the practice manages to upsell them on a premium lens.

Be sure your surgeon can convince you that you actually need the surgery. Also, be sure they plan to be involved in your care postoperatively and aren't just shipping you back to the optometrist.

I had cataract surgery in Oct 2021. Could not be more pleased. The surgeon in SA did Refractive Lens Exchange on my wife in 2017, where she went from 20/600 to better than 20/20 overnight. He also did Lasik on our son around that same time. When he screened me, he asked what I wanted. I said that I wanted to see better and did not want to wear glasses. We implanted a trifocal lens. I can see the smallest print imaginable, the computer screen and am 20/20 distance.

I had Lasik in Nov 2000 in Houston. We did monovision where my dominant eye was corrected for distance and non-dominant for near. It served me well for years. I saw near just fine but my distance was around 20/30 or 20/40. The problem was the astigmatism in my dominant eye was very uneven. My surgeon describes it as a mountain on one side and valley on the other. He said he didn't have a lens for me and didn't want to do surgery if he couldn't make my vision better. I appreciated his honesty so we only did the non-dominant eye. I see better in the non-dominant than my dominant.

My SIL recently had the surgery in Austin. Their Doctor offered around six options with different prices. My brother is cheap so they did not opt for the top option. My Doc never discussed different options, perhaps because I wanted the best and was not price sensitive. It's just my fricking eyes!

In August I was seen by my optometrist and referred to Eye Center of Tx , surgeons, for more detailed eval and it was noted that I hada cataract in my right eye and a samll one in left that would also qualify with insurance.

At Christmas I started having blurred vision in my left eye and it has continues to worsen. I was told in August to have the surgery....I thought I might wait to this summer but they said I am 3 months past exam and need re eval and to see what is going on in my left eye with the blurred vision.

It is so bad tonibght that I cant not see what I am typing with my glasses on.

I've had both eyes done. Great outcomes in both. Was provided info on all the options and prices. Chose the option that best fit my lifestyle. 20/20 vision in both eyes. Need reading glasses though but that was part of the plan we agreed on.

Could be a "quick" moving cataract, PSC most likely, or could be completely unrelated to the cataract if your vision has taken such relatively quick turn for the worse. If it turns out to be the cataract, and you have any specific questions about the lens options they give you, feel free to DM me. Also, there is nothing wrong with your referring Optometrist participating in your post op care.

Posterior Subcapsular Cataract. This is the type that's most commonly known for being "small" in August and "can't see anything with my glasses" by January. However, the fairly quick vision decline could also be from other causes. See what Eye Center says first then can go from there.

Had mine done last Feb. I was diagnosed with them long ago and let them go. Something they see early and you can wait. By the time I got them done, my vision was terrible. Every light was 3 lights in a triangle. Darn near wrecked the rental on vacation shortly before surgery. The options given were the three different lenses. Standard lens, no vision correction. The two premium lenses have different amounts of vision correction. I was recommended to not do the best due to bad astigmatism. See great, cell phone and anything closer I need magnifiers. They could make my vision better, but I was in glasses at 18 and now I am an old geezer, so I am enjoying the break from glasses. Mine were done by Dr K Shanmugam in Bryan. He does his surgeries at The Physicians Center or S & W. I chose S & W and was totaly pleased with the whole experience.
