What's on your playlist to get you pumped for a heavy lift? I'm 41 so I enjoy the music from the late 90's and early 2000's and have no idea what is currently good.

Current playlist has Mudvayne, Killswitch Engage, Pantera, Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed, etc.

Who do y'all listen to from that era as well as now?

My deadlift PR (a paltry 315 years ago) was done to Pantera's "Cowboys from Hell".

Don't listen to music at the gym currently since my son started going with me. But I have two play lists for that.

Metal: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, Anthrax, Metal Church, Exodus, Overkill, Sepultura, Manowar, Motörhead, Prong, White Zombie, etc

Punk: Bad Religion, Avail, Dillinger Four, Dropkick Murphy's, the Distillers, Pennywise, Minor Threat, Rancid

In addition to the above, I added Static-X recently
Older albums of Ghost do well for me too

Honestly I'll bet there's a nice selection of newer metal on the Entertainment page

OP, are you looking for new thrash metal bands like you listed, or are you open to any type of new hard rock/metal?

I don't listen to music when lifting or running. Prefer to just be alone in my thoughts.

But 90's/2000's music is my kinda music in general.

I also had a psychiatrist tell me once that classical music is actually good music to lift to. Can't remember his reasoning, but he mentioned some study that indirectly supported his hypothesis.

Slaughter to Prevail, Shadow of Intent, and Lorna Shore have been my go tos in the gym as of late.

Older discography of All That Remains is solid too. Trivium and Unearth when I need a slower pace.

This is a Spotify playlist that was created based on a similar thread in the past. It's public and collaborative so that anyone can listen and add to it.

As much as my opinion wavers on how much I actually like their music, Korn and Limp Biskit typically have good bass and drums to get into rhythm on.

Also rage against the machine, linkin park. I really like the linkin park and jay-z mashup session. Soundgarden / audio slave.

Check him out. It's a bit of a mix of genres but some songs hit hard with a fast pace.

Not heavy, but this is what I put on when squeezing out one last set of squats.

In before that one guy in every discussion where Metallica comes up, tries to show how cool he is by telling everyone how they "sold out" after the Fillintheblank album or after so-and-so left the band/died etc, and how he no longer listens to them......

Gawd that gets old.

As Jason Newstead said years ago (while still with the band), of course Metallica sells out...every building they play in.

Yup! I'm like, dude, you DO realize that Bands evolve over time, don't you? The Rolling Stones don't make every song sound like, Satisfaction and if the Beatles had still been together in the 80s they would have done at least one synth pop album. Guaranteed.

What is good is what YOU like.

If you're looking for recommendations during that era, you should be able to get on TIDAL and playlists from that time or from those bands/ones similar to them. I'm sure other services have similar things but I'm not as familiar with them. I'm also not sure what TIDAL offers for free, but I think a decent amount.

LOL! When I was training up to a competition and during the competition... No music.

My head was filled with everything I could think of to hate. Such as:
F U and your stupid azz music
F this stupid azz weightlifting spit
F U hoose you worthlesss lazy fat fug
F this dayum hot azz gym
Guys would be giving me keys that we worked on - F U I know I need to start off the squat by sitting back hard - we've been working on it for 3 GD months.

Of course I wouldn't say anything to anyone. Except on the stage. I'd start mumbling and cussing myself as I was getting under the bar... F U hoose.. u p***y azz beach. Worthless mother effer. Etc.

Didn't need music.

FWIW... if you lift with someone, leave your earbuds off when you hit your working sets/max reps, etc. You can't hear keys if you got earbuds in. That's one of my biggest pet peeves in the gym with these kids powerlifting these days. They have all the programming in the world, can't lift for crap. Every set they have their dang earbuds in and can't here cues.

You're kind of addressing a general lack of anger in sports today. Old guy here who can't understand how listening to slow moving r&b gets athletes ready for anything besides getting trucked.

The only answer is Rage Against the Machines self titled album. If that doesn't get you pissed off, nothing will.
