Barring something insane tomorrow, Sepp Kuss will be the first American in 10 years to win a Grand Tour.

Lots of drama but excellent tour.

Dude rode all three this year

Stoked for him.

Found it interesting that earlier this year he stated on adventure stache that he was moving his career away from being a GC rider.

he is the best American cyclist right now. He is pretty much the reason why Vingegaard won the tour this year. Sep pulled his wheel day after day up down and around so that vingegaard has the legs to surge late in stages.

He's not leaving world tour. He talked about not being a GC rider and concentrating on being a domestique (he's one of the best), while going for stage wins when they present themselves.

I see. I thought he was already that role. To be honest those classifications are confusing as hell following the tour each July.

You are correct. He is in that role. Which is why it's surprising to see him win GC at the Vuelta. But he was being groomed in the past 2-3 years to move to a GC role. On the podcast, he discussed this, as well as the decision to stick with being a domestique.

Yeah he kind of fell into the red, but proved he could hold it to anybody not named Jonas.

He probably can sit back and be the best domestique again, but his next contract negotiation spells be interesting. I bet UAE am Ineos make a run at him.

He specifically talked about it being his decision to not pursue GC. Obviously things can change, but he said it earlier this year. June 24th episode of Adventure Stache if you want to listen to it yourself.

I know. And for the GT he can continue to do that...but maybe if he wants to pursue other races, other teams might be more willing to build a team around him for a 1 day or 1 week. Something he's not going to get at jumbo.

Either way, I'd really like to be his agent right now. All he sees are dollar signs haha

He also said toward the end of the Tour that he could see himself being a contender and team leader, so there is probably a lot of politics behind the scenes prompting what he says publicly.

I always felt he'd be a really good GC option, but because he rides for JV and they have Vingegaard and Primoz, he's always going to be put behind them. He's been a top 5 domestique for the last 5 years and is always the one dragging those two up the mountains and keeping them with the top group.

He would be the GC guy on most teams at the moment.

Yeah. Kuss gets dinged for not being a good TT, but when your job is to be a mountain super domestique, you don't really spend any time on TT when you're just going to soft pedal it.

So a Kuss that actually spends time in a wind tunnel getting his fit right, that could really be a game changer for him. Maybe he cuts the lost time down further.

The biggest challenge for Kuss is that on most other teams, he's not going to have someone even on par with himself to go up the mountains with...So it's a lot tougher situation then he dealt with.
