Elbow Pain

How long do you want to ignore this user?
When I try to throw something like a baseball or other similarly sized object (rock, etc) I start to feel pain in my elbow. I can throw a football fine, but something about smaller objects sets it off. It's been this way since little league baseball, but I've never had it checked out. Is this something that is more likely to need a Dr visit or more of a PT thing? Nothing in everyday life seems to be bothered by it, but as my boys get older I'd like to be able to play catch without feeling it.

Curious for any thoughts.

Switch arms or throw back underhanded.
Do a better job warming up.
Ice after.

Think about the mechanics of throwing a football vs. baseball. Your arm is in a more natural postition throwing a football.

Or spend a bunch of money for them to tell you that you are getting old and have a touch of arthritis.

No doubt I'm getting old but my arm has been this way for 20+ years so it's nothing new.

I would see a PT for this. This needs to be explored in depth.

Do you think OTs and PTs are equally good for elbow stuff? I was always told anything below the shoulder should go to OT, especially since time to get an OT appt is usually faster.

If they are a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) see the OT. If not, see a good PT with a strong ortho background.

There is such a term as Pitcher's elbow. It is typically thought of as a baseball injury, but it can happen to anyone. It happens when the joint at the elbow area where the muscle and bone meet becomes strained during a strong overhand motion.
Sometimes surgery is required, but a small number of people need it. Though doctors usually recommend applying ice to help reduce the swelling and taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory meds (you can read about them of the Canada Drugs site if interested). But the most important is giving your elbow a rest. My brother did it and it took him several weeks to feel the relief.
But still, we all are not doctors here, so one more vote for visiting a doctor.
