Up front, I don't have any strong feelings about this topic, one way or another. But I listened to the first half of this podcast this morning, and cold therapy (my own general term) is covered in the first segment.

I am biased towards Stulberg and Magness because of the quality of their books, and I've generally found them to be very measured and pragmatic. However, I don't just outright believe everything they say or write based on that.

I think that's all the caveats up front as I offer a bit of a dissenting view. Cold therapy is covered starting at the 6:00 mark and going through the 19:00 mark or so.

I found this thread searching for cryotherapy.

I'm about to get back in the weight room after 2 years away. I've been putting it off honestly because I dread the damn soreness i'll experience for 2 weeks. I'm not ashamed to admit it. As I approach 50 I understand old people seeking comfort

I was thinking of buying a few sessions at the cryotherapy place that is 2 minutes from my house. I don't know if I should use them on days I lift, the recovery days in between. Of even combo - do it on off days and again right before I lift if it removes soreness long enough to get a good lift.

Also good to hear people say a cold shower is infinitely more miserable than a plunge. I tried a cold shower a couple of months ago. Finished my hot shower then turned on the rainhead immediately after, as cold as I could get it with adequate pressure. I'm not sure if I made it to 60 seconds. I was using my timer but was damn near hyperventilating! That experience has kept me from jumping into the pool when the water is still hanging out in the 40s/50s.
Staff - take out the trash.

I've been doing the cold shower thing everyday for like 2 years now. I just soap and shampoo up in warm/hot water and then turn to all the way cold to where I have to stand under it to get all the soap off. I have a timer in my shower that I used to set for 4 minutes to make sure I'd at least be in the cold water for that long, but I haven't done that in a while. I usually just go about 2 minutes now.

This routine has always just been about the mental effects for me because it wakes me up in the morning and makes me feel great after getting out of the shower.

I do cryotonics at Restore Hyper Wellness on University east. Have been doing tree years twice s week...202 below zero for 3 mins in nitrogen fed cold chamber. Second loc opening March 1 at College Station Tower Point across from HEB. Owned by Logan and Katy Pounds Lee, former Aggie basketball players. I recommend. Check out website.

It's all just bro science. Mostly a way for kids on the 1-9 suburban football team to feel like they're tough guys because they can get the trainer to blow the budget on ice.

Just as useless as stretching beyond the range of motion you need for the ensuing activity.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

I'm cheap by nature get some used 16 ounce water bottles and freeze them I put about 30 of them in the tub with the the coldest tap water I can get

I do 15 minutes , then refreeze and used them next time

I started with 15 and have worked myself up to 30 , I don't know how cold the water is but my knees feel great after 2 hours of tennis or leg day in gym

I have the $150 tub and it is already too expensive to keep it cold. If it gets up to 68 degrees, it requires 60-70 pounds to bring it below 60.

I am looking at getting a pump as I really do enjoy doing it every morning. I am just concerned about getting a pump that takes 2 hours to bring the temperature down.

Anyone purchased a stand alone pump and if so, what has been the experience?

Interested as well as I'm in the exact same situation. Really love it and need the pump. Curious of how efficient it is.

I have a penguin chiller. Have not used it yet. Construction of Sauna starts tomorrow and this is going on front porch of the sauna. I am going to box it in to look nice with stained cedar and lid it. like the YT below.
