How long do you want to ignore this user?
Tied my 1/2 Marathon PR I ran >25 years ago.

Birthday #58 on Monday.

Pardon me if I almost break my arm patting myself on the back!

And got home to see the second half. Pretty good day so far. Ags 67, Bama 61.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Congrats. Almost a perfect day for a half. I know you had to work your tail off for that.

1:34 half. PR.

Still trying to figure out pacing for the half. Hindsight, I ran the front end too conservative.

For what it's worth, I found that 8 miles at target pace was a really good training run about two weeks out from the Half. I got a pretty good feel whether I could hold that pace for 5 more miles. One nice thing about the half is that you don't worry about a 2 mile warmup run, so you can be close to target pace at the gun.

By the way, great race. Leaving time on the table and still hitting a PR is a very good day.

Good thoughts. I suppose I have never trained specifically for a half. It was always used as a test for the full. Any of my speed work or pace work comes in the form of marathon pace, 5k pace or 200-800m intervals. I just don't have a feel for HM pace. So much so, that I did a kick for the last 3mi.

I suppose that is the beauty and folly of this sport; you learn something new every race.

There's no reason to warmup for the first 2 miles on a full. Warmup for 10 minutes before the race starts and go get your target pace at the gun.

I don't warmup for 2 miles in a full. I just started around 10 seconds behind the pace group, passed them by about 2 minutes in the middle miles, and finished with them. Pace group was slightly too slow at 50 degrees, and slightly fast at 70 degrees.

The difference with the half is that it's a minute faster pace, and needs more "gear up" time to hit that pace. I like to get in a 2 mile run, and then chill for about 20 minutes before the gun
