Any doctors or PA's on here want to take a stab at my FLU riddle?

Going on day 6 of the flu. Forgot to get my shot of course which i get every year so haven't had it in 10 years. The last two days i have the same exact cycle. Fever/chills take Nyquil or Tylenol. Within 30-45 minutes my fever reduces almost to normal, feel okay, so eat or run errands. By the time hour 3-4 rolls around my fever kicks back up and rinse/repeat. i get high fevers like 102.5-103.5.

My doctor did not prescribe Tamiflu on Tuesday (Day 4) when i saw him because you have to take within first 48 hours.

This cycle is wearing me out mentally. Can't sleep well. Always sweating hot or chills freezing cold.

All doctors and ER i went to said its just the flu, it will pass.

Side question - any thoughts on COVID vaccine and how this may have affected my body to fight the flu?

If you are running fevers, your shouldn't be out "running errands". You are likely spreading the virus all over the place.

Not sure where you're at, but in central Texas there is apparently an enterovirus running roughshod per a local pcp. Half my kid's class is out. Nothing to do but wait it out.

I'm in Houston. And yes all urgent cares and minor ER's (I have been to three this week) all say they are slammed with flu patients.

I am just concerned that i have never had the flu this long (7 days now) and my headaches are unbearable. Like starting to question reality terrible. And nothing stops them.

I was so hot this morning (103.3 fever) i jumped in my pool for 10 minutes. 52 degrees outside and pool water was 68. best thing i did.

The last time I had the flu, it lasted 2 weeks and was terrible. I couldn't eat, woke up covered in sweat, and felt like I was freezing. You absolutely should not be out running errands and should be home resting. You have likely spread it around, and probably made it worse for yourself by not resting.

I'm assuming you had a positive flu swab, and so you're confirmed flu positive? Did they tell you which strain (usually A or B). You could very well have gotten a second infection on top of it as well. Sometimes you become more prone to a secondary pneumonia following a viral infection. There have also been bad cases of rhinovirus/enterovirus going around that have been hitting adults pretty hard too.

COVID vaccine should not affect your ability to fight other viral infections. And no way of knowing if getting the flu shot would've made this a less severe infection for you, but I certainly always encourage folks to get it to avoid stuff like this.
