I think I'm going to try this out in November.

Hyrox Website

Basically you run a 1k and then do a functional exercise (rows, lunges, sled pull/push, wall ball, farmers carry, etc) and that repeats 8x until you're done. Watching videos, its pretty intense.

I'm still a poor runner so I'm putting in a lot of miles lately to improve motor and form.

Anyone done one of these before and can offer any advice?

My wife and I are considering it. She's in much better shape than I am at the moment.

It's a legit challenge. Especially ending with the wall balls.

My gym coach won the world championship in her age group for women a few months ago. She used to be a pro cyclist and switched to fitness coaching so did has very good cardio endurance.

Run. A lot. And work on techniques for the specific work events as they stay the same and you can get more efficient at them with practice, and practice working tired.

Yeah it's definitely a test of endurance and strength. The sled exercises are no joke either in terms of being able to push and pull significant weight. The broad jump burpees and the running are where I need to improve the most.

They have a benchmark fitness test to kind of gauge where you're at and you can go run it at different gym affiliates for an official time.

Why is this special vs all the other HIIT/CrossFit places?

Just more focused on running?

Mouth, you workout at CrossFit Central on Burnet Rd?

I did the PFT test today and the coach was named Allison (sp?) and they mentioned she was highly decorated. Were you up there today?

It's just a new flavor of racing. Very different than CrossFit. It's a cool blend of endurance and strength and just a different way to test yourself. It's not necessarily HIIT because tge events are an hour plus. You definitely have to pace yourself.

Yes I was. Grey shirt, blue shorts, about 5'9", that was me.

Given how short it was, that was intense work.

Cool, I was in heat 1, blue shorts green shirt.

Yeah, the wall balls wrecked me. I was sub 19 when I got to the last station and I quite literally hit the wall on wall balls. Brutal.

Cool, yeah, that seemed to be the concensus: tough surprise at the end.

Was anyone planning to race in the Hyrox Houston event? It was originally slated for January 21st, but now the website says Feb. 25th even though the registration link still has Jan. 21st.

Very confusing to say the least. I was strongly considering giving it a shot, but I won't be able to with the date change.

Edit: Checked the GRB calendar and it confirms Feb. 25th.

Contemplating it. The gym I go to is doing a simulated race this Saturday, so I will see how I do.
