Anyone have experience with this gym? Their videos look good but they're $165/month. Thanks for any feedback.
Thanks for the advice. I looked into the starting strength training….$400/month! Wow. I'll need to think about that, but I do love the personalized one on one idea.Capitol Ag said:
Obviously this is circuit training. If that is what you are looking for, might be worth the initial visit to see. I have never been a fan of HIIT weight training circuits as they tend to lack in 2 of the major necessities when designing a training program: Specificity and Progressive Overload. I also feel like they end up producing a lot of junk volume and excess fatigue and since they tend to be general can lead to "general" results. But, they are great for general fitness and conditioning. And they claim to customize your training which a lot of these HIIT circuit training groups do not do a good job of. Given they use barbells in their training, just make sure that they have a good coach running these sessions who actually understands barbell coaching. This gives me a crossfit vibe overall. Not an issue but sure gives that look overall. Again, an experienced coach is the key.
So if your goal is more overall health vs getting "jacked" (a focused hypertrophy program) or strong (a focused strength program or power building program), and you like the group fitness thing, I'd get a free trail and then compare to other circuit places.
Also, if strength were of interest to you, Starting Strength now has gyms across the state where they do 5x5 training for groups. You get your own rack and a cert strength coach runs the sessions.
Wow! It's gone up since they opened. There's one here in Plano (I am in McKinney) and one in Dallas. It's great strength coaching though. There's also Barbell Logic and Barbell Medicine that do online variations of coaching. Those might be more affordable. The key would be finding a gym that isn't so crowded that you can get the rack and a dead lifting platform for an entire session. Or make a garage gym like my buddy and I did. I mean, at $400 a month, you could take that money, build your own garage gym and get good online coaching and/or get am good training partner to watch each other's form after studying the videos out there on youtube.Fedup said:Thanks for the advice.
