I've been getting bored with my workouts recently so I started going down the rabbit hole looking into apps specifically for weightlifting workouts. I settled on FitBod about two months ago and have been pretty happy with it so far.

You enter in your physical characteristics and goals along with all the equipment you have access to. Which is great because I workout at home so I don't have the ability to use specific machines at a gym. When I say you enter in all the equipment you have, I mean all the equipment you have. Barbells, specialty bars, amount of weights, every single dumbbell and kettlebell you have, etc. It designs daily workouts for you including the exercises, weight, reps, sets, rest, etc. I haven't had the same workout twice, and it tracks all your progress so it can calibrate for your next workout. I paid for the premium version which is $60 for the year.

I'm curious what others people have tried and the positives/negatives they've experienced.

The only real negative so far is that it seems to know the days I don't want to do legs...and that seems to be the day legs are on the menu.

I've used JEFIT for a long time and have always liked it. They crowdsource a lot of workout routines that you can then work off of to make what is good for you.

On that note, I think you need to have a goal in mind and not just work out to work out. Do you want strength, mass, tone etc? That should be what shapes your workouts. I wouldn't let an app define what I do. Id make a goal and do what I could to get to thst goal with the equipment I have.

For the longest time I was doing a push/pull/legs and abs power/ hypertrophy split. I kind of married that with a 5x5 on the major lifts.

This week I switched to the candito 6 week program and it is hammering me more than I thought it would right out of the gate.

My goal is to lift 1000 lb between the 3 main lifts. I'm close but every lb seems to come harder. I have no idea how those guys squat and dl 1000 lb.

I tried several apps but really never liked any of them. I used the NSUNs app for a little bit while I was doing that and it was ok. I've come to realize that I much prefer to research and find my own program, tweak it, and use my ol notebook and pen.

Fitbod has been very good for me. Their iOS is better than their android.

I like using a spreadsheet. If you pick a program you can probably find it on liftvault. If you're good with them you can add lots of cool features. I use the GSLP one.

I'm currently using the Ifit program (it came free with the treadmill that my wife purchased). I've really enjoyed the workout series that I'm currently doing. It's 12 weeks, first 6 weeks is 3 days a week (upper, lower and total body), last 6 weeks is 4 workout days a week. No workout is the same, he (John Peel) changes it up every time so I'm never bored and I'm always excited/nervous about what's coming next. There's a free 30 day trial and you can download it to your TV and play the workout from there. You will need Kettlebells (I just use dumbbells), resistance bands and loop bands (smaller bands) and a mat for the core training.
