I get that his is a popular answer for for the average joe who hits the treadmill or pounds the pavement a few times a week to burn some extra calories. But you're a pretty serious marathoner; there's got to be a little more to it.

I can think of a few others but hard to summarize into 1 word. I run to stay fit (weighed 235 lbs in college and don't want to get back there), spend time with friends, and continually push myself to new PRs.

My husband would probably say that what I spend on shoes for running is more than a yearly membership to a gym (assuming I just wore whatever shoes were cheap at Academy)

And all the clothes I feel like I have to buy since they obviously make me faster and run farther.

Haha...y'all crack me up! I actually do buy my shoes on sale at Academy (or DSW)...but I know what fits, and thankfully they aren't too expensive (and I probably wear them too long).

And my running clothes are literally the cheapest things I can find...because I know eventually I will have to throw them out! I save the good stuff for my yoga/Pilates class where I don't sweat ~quite~ as much.

And I actually do have a gym membership (at the Y) - but only because I take yoga/Pilates there and $62/month is a steal compared to the private studios!
