I don't buy that caffeine is "good" for you, especially in large-ish amountsRG20 said:
Bump
I am just wondering here, WHY did you guys decide to quit? I think I would like to do it because I know I am somewhat addicted. But, I thought studies show that it is actually good for you.
I would like to know why you quit and what BENEFITS you have seen from quitting.
Thanks!

One day recently I just neglected to make my coffee, and that night I got a headache. I decided I don't want to be physically addicted to anything, so I stopped drinking coffee (for now). It took about 5 days before the headaches went away.
I don't know how long I'll go without caffeine, but I don't want to get back to where I drink 16+ ounces every dat.

Caffeine is like everything else, enjoy in moderation and you are okay. Bottom line is it is a drug that has pros and cons. But with the huge amounts of energy drinks being consumed, companies like Starbucks making their coffee almost twice as strong as off the shelf kinds, and all the coke people drink it really adds up. Compare that to the ancient Japanese culture where their main beverage was green and white tea that has 30-40mg.
Get off caffeine for 2 weeks and see how you feel/see how addicted you are. I have always told myself I would never have to rely on something to operate how I want. I say that but allergy medicine makes my life a whole lot easier...multiple sinus infections a year was getting old.

Yeah the sinus rinse only works for a short time with me. I never really had a problem until moving to DFW.

half-life of caffeine is about 4 days. that's all you need to purge it from your system. just an fyi.
i worded that incorrectly, should not have used 'half life'.Captain Pablo said:AggieOO said:

The half life of caffeine varies with the individual, but for the average adult, it's about 5 hours
And caffeine addiction and withdrawals are not about what's in your system, its about how your body reacts when it's OUT of your system

Caffeine and it's effects stay in my system way longer than 5 hours. Caffeine cravings and headaches can take several weeks to subside after quitting. I quit because I didn't like relying on a drug to jolt me with energy or getting a headache because I didn't want it. Coffee and tea are available in decaf so I can still enjoy the taste sometimes without the negative effects of caffeine.
I quit caffeine the first week of January. Man it was a long week.chinmusic44 said:
Definitely recommend giving it a try.

Has anybody experienced any irregular heart beats or "flutters" along with consuming lots of caffeine?
