Maybe not H&F related, but I read it in Runner's World. Anyone here put butter in their coffee? I'm a relatively new coffee drinker. I've tried it the past couple of mornings. Hasn't altered the taste much, but it makes it creamier. In RW, I read about some runners drinking it; I guess the reasoning is to add some extra pre-workout calories in lieu of a normal breakfast.

I like coconut oil.

Ditto coconut oil. I've become much more pro-butter over the last 24 months, but straight drinking butter crossed the line.

Like bulletproof coffee or is this something else? The bulletproof thing was trendy for a while and you could even find it at some specialty shops in Dallas.

I like butter in my coffee... unsalted. Typically, I go with one tbsp per cup. Immersion blender to mix it well. Haven't tried coconut oil yet. Sounds interesting.

you're supposed to get the most benefit from unsalted butter from grass-fed cows.

For those who do butter do you use organic butter from grass-fed cows or just whatever 100% real butter you get out of the dairy case?

butter from grass-fed cows. We get Kerrygold unsalted.

That's what I use. With coconut oil, it makes really good coffee. Taste like a macaroon.

I did bulletproof coffee (coconut oil + unsalted butter) twice - and both times I felt terrible for a solid day afterwards. I can do coconut oil solo, but mixing in the butter...felt like death.

Individual anecdote is individual.

I basically do the BPC recipe minus the butter and only 1 TBSP of coconut oil. Get the taste and a little calorie boost but not so much oiliness. I use vitamix to blend it and it comes out delicious.

I guess I'll google, but what exactly is the "recipe?" I just dissolved butter in my Keurig-made cup of coffee. Why do you need to vitamix it?

It just sounds gross, but I'm not much of a coffee drinker to begin with.

As I recall the recipe was 2c coffee, 2 Tbs each butter and coconut oil, and some milk and vanilla extract. I use the blender to get a frothy thick consistency. Could probably do it by hand but not sure how well the oil/butter would mix by hand.

Whatever floats your goat, but that doesn't sound very good to me.

can someone fill me in on the benefit of doing this?

Or is it just for taste? Never heard of it

Google "bulletproof coffee". Sketchy science at best...not sure I believe any of it. But if it tastes good and isn't necessarily bad for you I guess it's okay. I don't buy that it's a sub for a healthy breakfast.

I like the taste... plus it adds a little fat into my breakfast.

I don't think anyone has really said anything about what drinking this stuff does for them.
I'll try...this **** makes me feel like i take down the whole office. I think the best way to describe the result is improved FOCUS and sustained energy. I drink the coffee around 530 or 6 after breakfast, and I don't feel for lunch until 1 or so now.

High concentrations of fat can make you feel sick in the belly if you aren't adapted to it, so start small...2tbs of butter is a lot. I use a little less than a tablespoon of ghee butter and coconut oil and use a blender. The worst part about the whole thing is running out of ghee and having to make more.

What about Land O Lakes canola oil butter? Stuff is like crack on its own and I bet would be pretty good in coffee. I'ts salted, but what's wrong with a little salt? Esp if you run?

Try tbsp of Bulletproof MCT oil, Kerry Gold butter and coconut oil also helps with those that are intermittent fasting.

Butter in coffee made an appearance on an episode of Hawaii 5-0 a couple of weeks ago.

I typically use 1TBSP of unsalted organic butter with 1 TBSP of MCT oil. Add a packet of sweetener and hit it with the magic bullet for a few seconds and you have a really creamy frothy coffee that will carry you to lunchtime.

Tried the coconut oil thing this morning whipped up in a ninja bullet. It frothed up almost like a latte and was absolutely delicious. For me, this is now a thing. We were out of real butter, but I'll be givingthat a shot too.

I didn't notice any difference in my hunger/energy levels, but it tasted good.

From a practical point of view how easy is it to clean up your blender after you've whipped this thing together? Does the oil get stuck to the insides easily or is it hot enough still that a quick rinse of it is all that is required?

I just tried this and you're right. A creamy latte. I'll never drink coffee the same way again.

It wasn't a problem at all for me. I poured the coffee in my to-go cup and quickly rinsed the bullet out with hot water and a little dish soap (didn't scrub just put lid on and shook a few seconds). I didn't notice any oiliness sticking around.

so basically I can just put a spoon of coconut oil, a spoon of good butter, and my hot coffee right into my magic bullet?

Thats it?

I'm in.
