People actually use these things and their significant others let them? I guess you if you are an elite athlete I could see the benefit of sleeping in high altitude but dang...there's a line I don't wanna cross.

I know a cyclist that has / had one, but his SO was an elite cyclist as well. Have no idea how you could convince them of an altitude chamber otherwise.

Yeah, but once I get her in...

Having used them, they are very effective. Fortunately, they are always pumping new air in, so you are NOT rebreathing the same air (or other bodily gases). They also have a permeable (almost mesh) "tent" so that if there were a power outage, nobody would suffocate.

Generally, you only use them for peaking in certain events, so your SO only has to put up with it for a few weeks. If your SO won't do that for you, you need to rethink your goals... or rethink your SO Selection Process.

I wonder if you can rent them somewhere? I live and train at 100', and I'm running a race at ~6,200 to 4,800'.

and then rent it out to me for cheaper than $800 when i finally get into western states.
