I've been using ON essential aminos for over a year. I much prefer it.

Just eat real healthy foods and watch your macros. I have a milk allergy and can't do whey and soy powders. I eat a real meal post work out (work out during lunch and eat right after usually a loaded salad with meat and a sweet potato). I add a can of tuna or chicken breast throughout the day to get the added protein. Cup of coffee if I'm feel slow before the workout. Best thing to help with getting amped up before pre-work out is box jumps or running.
