You weren't kidding about phase 2... holy crap the eccentric upper workout!!! I haven't burned out that quickly in a workout in a long time. 10 reps of slow mo pullups is nothing to joke about. I did 9 of the first set and then I was busting out the stool for support. I would do about half regular and half with assist the rest of the way. My arms were absolutely spent. By the time I'd get to rep 7-10 I wasn't sure if I was even using my arms or if my legs were doing most of the work.

The rest of the workout wasn't too bad... I didn't have a problem with any of the slo mo pushups or the slow mo weighted curls/presses.

I'm not optimistic that I will be able to get through that workout without a chair assist on pullups before it's done. I'm pretty sure only the highest level guys can do that.

Exactly.

I worked pretty hard in phase I... I mastered most of the moves and went pretty hard during the muscle building workouts. But darn it all if 3 days later I'm not still very sore from the first Phase II workout!!!

The good news is that means it's working! The bad news is that it took my pride down a few notches.

Beginning transition week out of phase 1 into phase 2. First three weeks haven't been as intense as I'd like, which is on me.

Was still recovering from a septoplasty the first week, and this third week I ended up catching the cold/funk that's been ravaging my office. Surprisingly the day I started to feel bad was Thursday's The Challenge and I had my best performance so far. Had to take Friday off due to illness and caught up and had a stinker of a CVX workout on Saturday. Skipped The Warrior and Dynamix... back to it today for this transition week and am looking forward to Block 2.

I'm really enjoying the workouts, but haven't felt like I've mastered a lot of the moves in some of the workouts yet... especially some of the bridge/pushup stuff where I need to work on balance. Agility X is the only workout where I feel like I don't have enough space to get the full effect, which is a bummer.

Yeah, I didn't think phase 1 was that intense either. Definitely some good moves and variation, but I didn't think a lot of it was p90x hard. Phase 2 on the other hand definitely takes it up a notch. I'd say it is very user friendly for people that haven't done it before. The first part really gets most of your body stronger and more flexible and then phase 2 blasts it. I'm in week 2 of phase 2 and I am sweating through a majority of my shirt in 30 minutes. Even during the mmx workout I got it going pretty good. Good stuff.

I read somewhere that the body releases a surge of something (can't remember what) right when you're starting to get sick that will actually make you perform better than normal until the sickness takes hold.

I'm getting close to the halfway mark and I'm definitely noticing some nice changes. Nothing mind blowing, but I'm getting some nice muscle tone. Phase 2 is really helping make it happen.

To celebrate I allowed myself a burger and fries for lunch. Oh, it was so awesome! Funny how the small things become "treats" when you eat healthy 90% of the time. But I did say no to the ice-cream bars (dipped in chocolate and covered with toppings of your choice) when we took the kids out last night, so I don't feel bad having 1 cheat lunch.

This is my last week of the phase 2 workouts (phase 2 recovery week is next week). I'm going strong and doing well.

How is everybody else doing?

Did a double yesterday of challenge + pilates.

I haven't been following the schedule 100% yet. Been mixing in some other stuff on the side.

What's the diet like in 90x3? I did P90X several years ago but skipped the diet part because a lot of it was stuff you simply couldn't get in a small town grocery store.

I honestly didn't read the diet stuff for X3... I've been on the same relative diet since the original P90X (3 years ago for me).

I followed that nutrition plan in terms of counting calories and their recommended allowances for protein/carbs/veggies/fat/etc. I never used their menu for stuff to cook. I just made sure I cut out the crap, limited my carbs, and made sure my calorie intake was good (while still eating the healthy food of my choice).

For P90X 3 I'm very liberal with my diet, but I've stayed in decent shape for the past 3 years too. I am watching what I eat, but I'm not counting calories like I was. My breakfast and lunch are the same most days so it makes it pretty easy to regulate. I'm not limiting my carbs like I did 3 years ago because I want more fuel to work hard and put on a little muscle mass.

I wanted to lose about 5-10 lbs during this round of P90X3 and I'm on target to do that. The muscle I'm gaining is pretty lean and my waist has shrunk again (I put on a few during the 2013 Holidays... but those were some good pies!). I really hope I have the energy/motivation to push hard in Phase 3... I'm seeing pretty good results and I'd like to finish strong.

I start phase 3 this week. I'm at a funeral today so I cut my recovery week a bit short and did the first workout on Saturday... I will pick back up on Tuesday and be back on schedule. Was my first time with the Decelerator workout... That's a good one. I thought it was all cardio, but it mixed in a lot of stuff. Elevator pull-ups were do-able but also very challenging. I'm actually sore today which makes me a bigger fan of X3... I've progressed a lot since Day 1 and yet I can still push hard and be sore.

In general I'm looking to really watch what I eat and go as hard as possible the last 5 weeks. After researching I'm going to up my creatine just a little bit too. I'm never gonna be super ripped, but I'm getting some good tone so I'll see how I end up. I will probably take some video and do a short P90X3 results video. I'll share if I get it done.

I didn't end up really following the program. I did most of the phases in about 40% of the time, but tried nearly all the workouts. I think I'll come back to it some day all the way through. For someone that's done P90x and Insanity the first phase was too easy IMO. The second phase would get my attention in spots, and some of the third was really tough.

I'm now swapped to Body Beast and plan on doing that one the whole way through. So far it's super intense.

Awesome, good job doing your modified X3. I've only got 3 1/2 more weeks and I'm done. I'm definitely seeing results looking in the mirror. It's been very gradual change since I was in decent shape going in. Doing my Day 0 and Day 90 comparison pics, not sure how much change I'll see overall. Comparing my Day 0 pics from 3 years ago however is a huge difference... and that's really the point. Me at 35 looks incredible compared to me at 25-32.

And I agree that phase I wasn't all that hard, but I can say that doing some of the phase I workouts in phase III has been really tough. I did total synergistics the other day and I had to lay flat on my back for a few minutes after. That never happened doing that workout in phase I. I'm definitely pushing myself much harder than I was back then and it makes a big difference.

Well, I'm just about done with X3. There were a handful of guys who started (or were about to start) when I did... Only heard from a couple recently so hopefully at least a few stuck with it. I'm getting some video here and there so I'll probably put up a YouTube in a few weeks showing results.

^Starting on the 2nd week of Phase 3. Really enjoy it so far, and am looking forward to finishing up and starting it over again, with a few of the original P90X videos thrown in a few days, or some extra cardio now that it's nice enough to run again outside.

Awesome! Yeah, I plan to do around 3 X3 workouts a week and start running as well. Got a tough murder Nov 1 in the Houston area so I'll need to get my running legs back. I've already incorporated the original ab ripper into X3. Not sure if I'll go back to any of the other original p90x workouts though. I like how some of the original workouts really blasted certain body parts (like biceps)... But for overall fitness the X3 workouts really incorporate a lot in 30 minutes.

I'm starting P90X3 on Saturday, very excited! I plan on laying this on top of boot camp 3 days a week (1 hr sessions), but we'll see how that goes. Just ran my 2nd Tough Mudder this past weekend, and I've completed P90X a few times and Insanity once (in the last 3 years).

Looking for a new challenge, and I enjoyed reading through your experiences on this thread.

I'll have to report back in a little while!
