How long do you want to ignore this user?
Recently diagnosed with Meniere's disease which causes loud ringing in my left ear and then I go deaf. I also get really bad vertigo. Sometimes lasts 20 min and other times a couple hours. May end up losing my military career because of it.

Wondering if anyone has this disease and willing to give me some helpful tips to get through it. I have done exhaustive searches and have learned a lot but wanted to find out specifics of what has truly helped.

Prayers would also be welcomed. Thanks and God bless.

My dad had/has it. I say had because he did have surgery which allieviates the vertigo, etc. I remember him being on a low salt diet to help prevent attacks. We used salt substitute. There were probably other things. I've known a few other people that have been diagnosed with it. Dad is a doctor and is more than willing to share advice, etc. Let me know if you need anything and I'll put you in touch.

Thanks guys. I may hit you up for advice. I have done multiple tests and really struggling right now. This vertigo is miserable.

I'm sorry to hear of your condition and having to deal with Meniere's disease.

I believe that there are surgical options, including endolymphatic sac surgery, but from what I've seen on it, I am not convinced there is any beneficial effects.

Still, I would suggest continued research, and good luck.

Ugh. I haven't had menieres but remember reading about it when I had vertigo for 2 weeks. Vertigo is awful, the most physically unpleasant thing I've ever experienced (give me unmedicated labor over vertigo any day). I can't imagine having chronic vertigo. Best of luck.

Some of the doctors we work with prescribe Betahistine for treatment of Meniere's disease, particularly for the vertigo symptoms.

Another thing I see prescribed a lot are sublingual histamine drops.

My wife has been dealing with this for about 5 years and her aunt for about 10 years. PM if you have any questions and I will be happy to ask her. Not gonna lie; it scared the crap out of me and it scared her.
Prayers and have someone to lean on about this. God Bless!!

Thanks for the articles and support. It has been rough but I will make it through it. I am having a few more tests done and they are going to do steroid injections in my ear to see if that helps.

If you need some inspiration: Alan Shepard had Ménière's disease. Had surgery for it, and went on to walk on the Moon afterwards.

My grandmother had surgery for that in the 1980s. It made her deaf in that ear (and she knew that it would going into it). She didn't care though, because it eliminated all of her symptoms completely.

I'm sure they have made serious advances in that procedure since then that don't require such extreme measures. Good luck!

My dad also has/had it...found out he also had a gluten allergy and follows a gluten free diet very closely.

All of his symptoms have disappeared with out surgery.
