Bought this 2011 F250 Lariat recently with a bad engine. Truck has 240k miles on it. Guy I bought it from was a good Ag. Said his wife was pulling a horse trailer up a grade, and it quit on her. He had it figured as a valve dropping/glow plug issue. Super clean truck is why I bought it, he even had recently recovered the leather seats.

Also, I still have the Duramax. Way behind on that build thread, but used it to haul this truck in.

So does it need a motor? I had an '11. It dropped a glow plug and needed a motor and turbo

Do the new seat covers work with the ventilated seats?

I bought a complete good running engine out of a 2012 cab and chassis for $2500. Plan is to do a re seal, and retrofit a 15-16 upgraded turbo on it. I believe I can be in the engine close to free after selling the CC turbo and parting the bad engine out.

Yessir, not sure who he used but they are perforated and the taint chiller still works. Also, yes the engine is supposedly bad. He showed me the broken glow plug so I assumed it dropped a valve and broke the tip of the plug. Upon further inspection, this truck has a full tank of gas in it. Smelled it when I disconnected a line pulling the engine. Took a sample from the frame filter and it lights right on fire. Plan on further inspecting the pulled engine and doing a leakdown/compression test on it.

So... it quit because someone put the gas in the diesel tank? innovative way to save $1/gal...

It appears so. He had completely replaced the fuel system a couple of years back when the Loves in Hearne put DEF in the diesel. By the way, Loves did not make good on that. I now try to avoid using them after hearing that from him. He put the majority of miles on this truck, and it was his baby. He was not so happy when I told him it was filled with gas. In all honesty, I nearly filled the Duramax at a stop out of state, I was tired and the nozzle was a different color. Happens to the best of us.

I did it last year. Put20+ gallons of gas into my f350 tank but realized it when I went to pull the nozzle out. Never started it. Towed it to a local shop and they pumped it out, put5 gallons of diesel in it, fired up no problem. Wallet was much lighter that day.

It happens.

Loves in Hearne has full service pumps?

I'm not sure I've seen full service anywhere in decades

Sounds like the previous owner's wife is the culprit

Tanker truck or employee filled the diesel underground tank with DEF. Lots of gallons pumped into local trucks and ruined them. He filled the truck on that occasion, not his wife haha.

Picture of the truck right after lifting the cab. I've never been a pull the cab kind of guy, but after this I'll pull them from now on. So much easier to work on and does not take long. Embarrassed the mess the shop is in this picture, but have her cleaned up now. I have the tendency to bid on auctions of stuff I don't need. Like Pallet scales, valve grinding machines, and motorcycle lifts....

Lucky you caught it, wallet would have for sure known then! I had paid and pulled the nozzle and pressed the button. Realized it right before filling. Got lucky as well.

Did some inspecting once I had it in the air. For those that don't know these trucks, they like to eat cab mounts. The OEM ones were made of a foam type of material and the collapse and make racket. Inspected these and they look to be upgraded Daytons and have been recently replaced. Saves me a few hundred bucks.

Next thing I looked over was the suspension. It was clear this truck had a lift. I tow 18k lbs plus pretty regular and also haul a lot of heavy stuff in the bed. I'm 6'2 but find it slows work down climbing in and out of lifted trucks. I know, I'm getting old. Looks like with the lift he was running some Monroe reflex shocks and a dual BDS steering stabilizer on the front. The Monroes appear to have seen better days.

Tires are about new, and looks like he put some wheels off a new super duty on here. Researched it some and these tires will clear at stock ride height on this truck.

I think a hungry lawyer would have been glad to file a class action on that one…..

My understanding is there was according to him. He said he basically ended up with nothing, Loves attorneys were good and covered not even a fraction of the damage. This is all second hand info.

I bought a wrecked 2015 F250 Platinum to use for turbo parts and other odds and ends I need on the swap. This truck had some miles on it, and the complete engine with turbo will bring about double what I paid for it. So I bought a low mile turbo setup off eBay for 500 shipped. Will end up using the lower intake and some lines and other assorted stuff from this truck for my swap. Has been handy to have as I work on the 2011. After parting it out it will about pay for the 2011 and the engine swap as far as I can tell. Also considering running these wheels and tires instead of what's on the truck.

I'm better at buying projects than finishing them! My primary job is an executive/desk type of work. I was gaining weight and unhappy stuck behind a desk all day. I don't think we were designed to live like that. Working on cars is my hobby, and I've found a way make a business out of it. I work more hours than most, but I've lost about 60lbs and am much happier getting to work with my hands some. I did not grow up around anyone that worked on them, so learned how on forums like this and watching YouTube videos.
