2023 F150 4wd

Bought the truck used with just under 37k miles. Now just over 78. Have not replaced tires, but did not like the reaction to some water puddling during/after a fairly decent downpour. Obviously it's time to replace.

Anyone have any suggestions? Current tires are Hankook Dynapro AT2. I am 90% city and highway with some country road driving, so all-season is probably a bit better fit than all-terrain.

Discount's "treadwell" is suggesting pirelli scorpion AS, michelin defender LTX AS, and Cooper Discoverer ATP2 (AT).

The michelins are the highest priced with the lowest wet traction rating. The coopers are about $80/tire less expensive. I am keeping Hankook in the mix because of this current experience and past experiences.

I don't mind spending a little more if the $/mile makes sense. Why buy a $200 tire to replace it in a year when a $250 tire will last nearly twice as long?

Open to other suggestions as well. Discount is convenient and has always taken care of me with flats, road hazards, R&B, etc. so I will almost certainly buy from them unless someone has a deal that just blows them out of the water.

Thanks in advance.

I have the Coopers on my 2500HD right now and like them so far. I had Falken Wildpeaks on before these and went with Cooper due to cost.

I love my Coopers, albeit they are an E-rated tire considering the places I take the truck.

It came with Michelin AT2s and those lasted up to around 70K+ miles until they met a massive mesquite thorn.

BFG KO3. They are smoother than you think and the wet traction is improved over the KO2s. Good luck.

I put Cooper Endeavor Plus's on my wife's Expedition and they are great. I tried to put the same tires on my truck but they didn't have 4 in stock so I went with the Cooper ProControl's (their highest rated tire). They're fine, but I like the Endeavor Plus's better. They are designed for rain and you can tell by looking at them.

If you're considering KO3s, and certain other Michelin tires, it's worth signing up for Michelin Advantage.

https://business.michelinman.com/advantage

The program is for "businesses", but they work with individuals too. No cost or credit check to sign up. You can pay for the tires with a credit card. KO3s are around $75 a tire less expensive than Discount or any other online vendors. Defender LTX is around the same. They also have the CrossClimate2 on the list.

How are prices compared to Costco with the Michelin program?

I had the ATP2s on my last truck. Got a little loud at 35-40K but otherwise fine. I may buy a new set for my Ram around d Christmas

I just went through making a decision on new tires in my F150. I had gone through two sets of Michelin LTX's. Lots of problems with both sets.
I pull a boat a lot and my main concern is how well a tire works towing when it's wet.
I did not want all terrain type of tires.
All our company trucks changed last year to Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascent. The trucks deliver boats all over the country in all kinds of weather….with road traction of upmost concern.
So I went with set of the same. I've been thoroughly impressed and all our company drivers have said only positive things.
Our company has used Michelin, Cooper, Goodyear and now the Bridgestone for our fleet of trucks.
The Coopers worked well but were hard to keep balanced and did not last.
The company drivers I talked with feel like the new Bridgestones are the best they ever have had for towing boats in wet weather.
Whatever tire you buy, if wet highways is your concern, make certain it has an "open" shoulder.

Over $400 less expensive than Costco for a set of 4 KO3 in 35x12.5R20.

Bridgestone tires seem to dry rot a lot faster than others. I have a duramax with 5-6yr old Duelers that have significant dry rot for the age. My motorhome has 4.5yr old 22.5 Bridgestones that are also badly dry rotted.

Be interesting to see your experience in a few years if they don't wear down due to mileage first.

The company I worked for delivers the boats they build and on instances where they are delivering small loads of one to two boats they use 1 ton pick ups.
They ran a fleet of these across the U.S. We also had field reps that had their trucks as well. 80% of the time they are pulling a boat. Sometimes up to 24'.
Hydroplaning is the death wish when pulling any kind of trailer.
For this reason the company tried to buy the best tire, regardless of price, to keep our guys safe.
For many years they ran Coopers. Then we started having issues of them wearing unevenly and hard to keep in balance on all of the vehicles. Also noticed we had to replace them more often.
So, after a lot of research they switched to Michelin exclusively. Many years they used nothing but Michelin. Then they started having all kinds of problems with them….mainly road hazard stuff that normally they would have held up to. Then documented cases of tires wearing out quicker. Even dealers that sold Michelin admitted that they had changed the formulations of their tires.
I had, myself always been a Michelin guy. My 1ton F350, and my wife's F150, and the ranch F150 always had Michelins till I started experiencing the same issues the company trucks were having so I made a change as well.
One thing I'll stress… my main concern is highway use and wet road conditions…namely hydroplaning when pulling a boat.
No matter the hype, an off road all terrain tire will not perform as well on wet pavement than a highway all season tread with open shoulders. I found that out..

Curious if any of these options would make the best alternative to the Michelin LTX AT2? Have been running them the last 4 years and 65k miles. Awesome tire....much quieter than the Wildpeaks I had on previously. Bummed they were discontinued, at least for my size.

Good stuff. I signed up, but my tire size does not fit anything I can find on the site. I did notice that my local discount tire is a buyer. Can I give them my michelin advantage # and get fleet pricing there?

Defender LTX MS2 if you're all highway driving.

What are you looking to accomplish?

OE Hankook are trash, they're made for Ford as lowest bidder and have terrible edge wear. Their aftermarket replacement tires are decent.

I am 90+% paved roads and at least 70% highway. It's a pickup so wet/dry traction is more important than road noise.

Open to a higher priced tire if the $/mile (or miles/$) makes sense.

What size tire do you need? Their spreadsheet isn't the easiest to use. I dumped the entire thing in ChatGPT to search/compare more easily

Some commercial tires aren't on the list, but there is usually a fleet option that's close to the same tire

I haven't tried Discount for ordering. I have a tire machine and have them delivered to the house.

I have 3 years and 70K on my set and they still look brand new. I think they're a good tire. They drive well on wet highways. I didn't know they were discontinued. I'll have to check my tire size.

I'm on my second set of Hancook's at 107K. 90% highway. I need to replace them soon, though, so thanks for the thread, OP. I lean towards the Hancooks as they've been good to me - very quiet and seem fine on wet roads.

Ended up getting the Michelin's that 1ags recommended thru Costco. Same offer as discount but no need to buy the road hazard certs. Pre tax 1213. Took them just over an hour. Was gonna be right at 1700 at discount out the door.

Disposal fee for 4 tires was $9. Installation of TPMS was $2.99/tire. Installation of tires was included in price.

At discount, the installation charge was going to be $112, $16 disposal, and road hazard certs for all 4 tires $258.

All in all I saved $365 versus discount. Costco doesn't open as early as DT, but they do have appointments, they stay open later, and they are open on Sundays.

I am getting no compensation to give you all these details, but if you are in the market for tires and have a costco nearby, they are definitely worth a look.

Pretty easy to talk to discount and they would've matched or beat Costco if it was a like for like. Can't remember the last time I paid for full price installation at discount.

Likely true. Went to Costco yesterday to see if they had the tires in stock. Got there just before 2p. Asked all the questions I felt necessary, had an appointment set for 4p. Returned to the store and they had me in prior to appt time and out in just over an hour.

Probably could have gotten the same or similar pricing at DT, but almost positive they would not have had me out the door with all of it the same day.

I have nothing bad to say about DT, but I wasn't willing to drive back and forth (or call for that matter) to see if the price match included everything or just the tires and see if they could get me taken care of within the same afternoon.

Only go with pirelli if you want less traction and replacing them more. Atleast my experience with my FIL's F150...

Cooper AT3's would be great. Have run several on F150,250, 350.
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's are good. Get a little loud toward the end but i'm mostly gravel road
