We just moved to town (CS) and I have a 96 F250 diesel that needs to be looked under the hood. Does anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic in either Bryan or College Station that is very knowledgeable of these engines?

What needs looked at? These motors are incredibly simple.

Over the last 5 years, the check engine light will come up in another light notification will come up and then it will turn off over a period of 510 minutes. We've had just looked at the engine was fine. We have changed out multiple sensors trying to alleviate this. Well now it's gotten progressively worse this year.

The story on this truck is a year after purchasing it. We changed out the radio receiver from a simple CD radio player to a touch screen receiver. Plus, we added a backup camera which no longer works but when that backup camera was installed I remember they noted that some of the wiring was poorly installed. Ever since we've had those two things done to the truck this issue has existed. And taking it to a family friend who owned a mechanic store he worked on it changed out the transmission and it's worked pretty well. But this year for some reason, those lights have come on and off, and have caused more than normal issues. Sometimes at slow speeds that Truck will die.

Your thoughts on what is going on? My personal opinion is there's something electrical wrong with the truck.

7.3 owner here. Yes, pull the codes as 1ags suggest. And as the other posted suggested, fairly simple design and troubleshooting once you have codes. I went through a bad IDM module but didn't settle on that until after progressively working through the easy checks. Finally narrowed it down to that, ordered a refurbed one and back in business.

Not saying that's your issue but an example of pulling codes and working through the known issues that throw said codes.
