Changed my oil right before I drove my truck from Galveston to Seattle area and reset the oil life monitor on my truck. ~2400 miles driven and when I got here oil life was listed at 77% remaining. I've never paid attention to the actual numbers on there before but that is just an insane number.

That equates to a 10,400 mi change interval. How is that crazy? Those are pretty easy highway miles.
Just do 5000 mi intervals. It's drunk.

Stop & go driving or idling will likely bring that average down.

You'd have to think the engineers programmed that in to the oil life system nearly 15 years ago. Either way, I've never seen anyone on this board advocate for 10k mile intervals before.
It counts engine rpm and load. If you did a bunch of miles at low load, this sounds about right.
Modern oils are fantastic. Modern engines are extremely clean. Those two things combine to have long oil change intervals.

I do 5k intervals on everything I own from year 2000ish up
I do 3k intervals on my older stuff.

I do 5K changes with synthetic oil. Thinking about stretching it out a bit. Getting tired of changing it every other weekend.
10k mile oil changes on my Cayenne. Mechanic says he has split those engines on those intervals and they look brand new inside.
For the average person changing your synthetic oil on a short interval is a waste or money these days unless you have an unusual driving pattern, extended idles etc.

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic + following the Ford oil life indicator did my 2015 F150 good for 180k miles. Obviously anecdotal but the factory engineers have access to a lot more data than anyone on a message board.

Ask your mechanic why he's having to "split those engines" in the first place
My 11 yr old Cadillac is up to 10k miles for oil change interval. Thought this was pretty normal now. I do about 3k miles per year on it so I change it once a year.

The last engine I had that didn't make 300k miles on 10,000 mile oil changes or whatever the computer says was a 1994 Taurus wagon. I think it did 185k or something and blew a head gasket.
When the eggheads at ford can figure out how to program the DTE to the size gas tank you have, I will listen to them more.

Caution: my friend ruined his M3 coupe by relying solely on the oil life change light. It wasn't just a mileage one but a more comprehensive analysis.

I've mentioned before that I have an a f150 with 455,000 miles whose oil is changed when enough leaks out of the oil pan gasket. It gets changed with literally anything on my shelf that's slick. I've replaced timing components for the first time at 454,000 miles.
I'm not a believer in 7500 mile oil changes if you are using quality oils. I change my new ford when the indicators say to change it which usually falls around 8,000 miles or more.
The attached picture is then inside of the valve cover at 454,000 miles. This has had synthetic blend oil its entire life mostly 5w-20 but over the last 200,000 miles it's gotten everything from 10w-40 to 15w-50 conventional and synthetic, mixed, you name it.
So, my point is, don't get too hung up on motor oils. Buy something branded and stop worrying so much.

This. It's about 10K intervals. I do 5K and just reset it then.
Most all other manufacturers use a combination of miles and idle, trip types and speeds, etc. some manufacturers like Mercedes use an actual spectrometer and examine the oil every key start to determine intervals.
I just do 5K mile intervals. On my ecoboost Fords, the oil smells like gasoline at that point.

I did my first oil change on my 18 Escalade on Friday and did about 1000mi of mostly mountain driving over the weekend, looks like my oil life indicator is putting me at about a 7k interval, but I change when it gets under 20%, never below 15 so that puts me around 5k

I learned my lesson here with my car. I will not let my car get below quarter of a tank. It ran out of gas telling me there was an 1/8 of tank left once. Never again.

So when it says 0 instead of 3-4 gallons, I have 6-8 gallons left.

No gas. And Yes, if I filled up the moment it said O miles to empty, I'd fill up 28 gallons.

Maybe the fuel pump is inside the tank and requires gas in it to keep it cool.

I wouldn't advocate for it per se but, I've been doing about 10,000 miles per oil change on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler and I'm just over 100,000 miles. No engine problems so far.
That synthetic is BLACK when it comes out after 10,000 miles.
