That's max tow rating. I said basic tow rating. The lowest for the 1500 was actually 5100 pounds. Mid-range seems pretty reasonable to me.

Is that a Custom or LT? Yeah they are big and gaudy, but dammit I love em, they look amazing to me. All of the big three, Chevy, Ram and Ford. But I think I like HD 2500 the most.

I am pretty tall though so bed height and other things might not be as big of an issue to me.

I like the big truck sizes. I have always owned trucks and driven them, so daily driving the SD is just not a big deal to me. I don't always need the capacity but I do feel safer in them. I see some crazy stuff from other drivers and I've seen some fatalities involving heavy duty truck where someone died driving those little suppository shaped cars like CRV or Civic sized stuff.

I had a person today damn near come to a complete stop from 70mph in the right lane so they could try to last minute merge into an exit well past the actual entry to the ramp. Fortunately I saw the idiot ahead of time and had enough time to react, but if I hadn't I would have hit them at 70mph. I'm not a math major, but I like my side of the mass part in the physics equation. It would have totaled my truck, but I have a better chance of walking away.

I understand the mass consideration, for sure. But an unladen 2500 is far more likely to get into a crash than a 1500.

The springs on this thing give me terrible rear wheel traction without a load. I've spun my tires three times today taking a right turn and it's not even lunch. Every bump in the road makes that worse. Stopping and/or avoiding another car at highway speeds is much better in the 1500. Way more nimble.

I've read that's why truck insurance rates are high, beyond just the insane replacement costs for these $80K "trucks". They also have to cover the cost for at-fault medical and death claims for those models.

Are you sure you're remembering that correctly?

I was at a party once around that time where a bunch of truck guys started talking about the "perfect" truck. There was some mild debate about suspension, though Chevy lead that group. Some debate about engines, though Ford had the upper hand. There was no debate about body style -- Dodge had it. Thus, the popular modular truck was Dodge body, Ford engine, and Chevy (GM) suspension.

That Dodge is what snagged me the girlfriend that is now the wife. She makes no bones about it. She went out with me because she liked my lifted 1996 Dodge Ram 4x4 and the way the 360 V8 sounded. It was a badass truck in Light Driftwood....it's currently rotting down in my old man's yard as we speak. One day I will get it back hopefully.

Everyone I knew wanted a Silverado and they are climbing in value today as us Gen Xers get nostalgic. We only thought the Dodge was a massive improvement over previous Rams, but I don't know a single person who would have taken one over a Z71 if given the choice.

I have a 2026 Chevy 2500 HD ZR2 (my retirement gift to myself). I love it, but it's not a daily driver. Use it for trips to one of the ranches (either a 3-1/2 hour or a 5 hr drive), hauling loads of corn and protein, or pulling the cattle or other trailers. Have been really impressed with the ride and handling. I have my college truck (1986 Chevy C-10 single cab, long bed) as a farm truck at one of the ranches. Not much larger than my son's Chevy Colorado Z71. I've gained a greater appreciation for our 2008 Chevy Suburban LTZ 4x4 with 318,000 miles that we use as our go-to daily driver. Best entrance and exit of any vehicle we have (perfect height) and easiest to back into a parking space (probably because we driven it so many miles in it). Definitely have to "climb up" into the ZR2 or climb down onto my '96 Corvette which becomes more of an issue as I get older…..

As an example, the current Ford Ranger is about the same size at the 90s F-150. If you want something the size of a Ranger, you can get a Maverick.

I saw an older Tundra next to a new Tacoma next to each other at a light, and the Tacoma's height dwarfed the old tundra.

It's odd that they needed to increase the size of everything, and replace them with other options...but I guess the market keeps buying them, so they'll keep making them bigger.

It seems you disputed your own answer. The current mid-size trucks are basically the same size as the old large trucks and there are several small trucks coming to market in 2027 so in that regard function has returned.

And now small trucks are actually making a comeback. Now whether or not anyone will actually buy them is another matter, but the Ford Maverick has been a hit.
