My class of 2011 son called and said motor is shot per mechanic. I did not get into details with him on the specifics. All I know is that it is the V8 not the eco boost. Mileage is under 100k and he has taken the truck in for regular service. He bought the truck used in Austin and outside appearances looked clean.

Are there any recommendations for a shop in the Austin area that he could visit with about engine repair/replacement?

I told him I would reach out to TexAgs and see about mechanic options.

TIA

He asked for mechanic options in an area, not for advice on how to wipe his kids butt for him. Nothing wrong with that. Take your preaching somewhere else! Geesh! If you cannot be helpful without unneeded judgement learn to be silent.

Ignore him. I'm retired and have time to help, thought this place could be a good resource for a mechanic not parenting advice. My two are great, work very hard, great careers and have wonderful families.

Been a few years, when my 06 Ford Taurus was having issues while in Austin visiting. I took my car to Auto Tek. Guys there got me back on the road. Hopefully your son doesn't need a full engine replacement.
My demon woke me up this morning and said bruh, I'm tired... So I handed him a Red Bull and said come on little buddy, we got bridges to burn and chaos to spread.

Dont know about mechanics in Austin, but when my son wrecked the engine in his Mazda, he found is was less expensive to replace it with one from a wreck, than rebuild it or buy a new short block (it even had far less miles than his original). Just a thought. Cheaper than rebuild, but still expensive.

ETA....its running like a champ....

I did. Good advice and more mature. Just hit me wrong. Sorry. I have good kids too and welcome the opportunity to help them out with stuff like that when they ask. Hope they always will.

My 2018 f150 3.5eb work truck went down on compression years ago and Gearhead Automotive in Bryan swapped in a new Ford long block and turbos to keep her running. I think they had it done in a week too. Very happy with their work.

It's a bit of haul, but he could give them a call and see what a new long block would be if it's that serious.

We should all be so fortunate as to have dads that help their kids no matter the age and kids that need their dads no matter how successful and smart they are. You're doing a fine job.

As for advice, I'd just find another mechanic to get a second opinion, and don't tell them someone else told you he needed a motor. Let them come to their own conclusion. If that is the diagnosis then I think you can certainly ask for suggestions but most respected shops with good reviews that don't make you feel icky when you walk in will be sufficient. Very view rebuild, so it will just be a motor swap. I believe 1ags at one time suggest AER for quality rebuilt motors on fords.

I'm 42 and not a day goes by I don't miss my dad and asking him for help when needed. He was always a phone call away and would help no matter what.

You and me, brother. And I'm sure I'm way older than you.
Just like the the OP's son, I'll always be my Dad's boy....and proud of it.

ETA: To all. Be kind and civil on this forum. I like it here. Poking is good, fun. Don't be F16. Things can be expressed w/o being nasty, cruel. Just a thought.

I wish I had more info. He just said local mechanic said it was toast, may be a bearing. Hope to have more info tomorrow.

Thanks
