2018 Chevrolet Silverado. I am the only owner.

CarPlay has always worked and when iPhones/chargers kept changing I finally got a MagicBox which allows wireless CarPlay through a USB powered dongle.

MagicBox was always a little finicky but now it has stopped working completely. Okay, not the end of the world. I'll just use a USB-A to USB-C cord for my phone (it's worked in the past). But now that doesn't seem to be working at all either.

I suspect it's either an iPhone upgrade or problem with the truck's infotainment system.

Things I've tried:
- restarted iPhone
- deleted the saved phone profiles in my truck's infotainment system
- deleted the truck from my iPhone's car play settings

I'm out of ideas but made an appointment at an Auto AV place to check it out. Won't do that until next Thursday though. I'm already missing my Spotify playlists, Waze, podcasts, audiobooks.

Anyone been through this or have ideas? I know, I know…first world problems.

Maybe disconnect your battery overnight to reset the system?

Honestly it sounds as like you USB port is dead. Have you confirmed it has power?

Agree with the above post about doing an electrical reset. Disconnect main negative from battery. While disconnected, touch a heavyish gauge jumper wire between the disconnected negative and the still connected positive for a minute or so. This ensures all storage is depleted and reset.

If that doesn't correct issue then just replace with aftermarket. Odds are it will be better anyways. OEM parts are only designed to last until the warranty is done.

Although in your case, GM isn't necessarily faulty, just not up to date with newer phones. It seems you are already having to adapt for this anyways. Just get a newer gen aftermarket head unit and be done with it. They have really come down in price and are typically an easy install.

Howdy, I have a 2026 RAM 1500 that had a CarPlay connect problem, got a dongle. When reading the reviews on dongles, found that dongles do go bad, some quickly, some after extended periods of time. What I am saying is that maybe your dongle. is bad.

I have a 2020 F150 that I have had similar problems with Carplay but I have not tired the wireless option. One time changing the charging cord worked. Another time it was the iphone software where the feature quit working in between upgrades. The most recent time I think it was something to do with the VPN software on the phone not being updated timely. Hope this helps.

I'm an idiot guys. I went and got a new USB cable and that fixed it. I feel dumb now. Sorry.

It's still working. I think I've had it 3 years now. It has streaming services so we can watch movies on the head unit. I don't watch but it keeps the kids busy on long road trips.

Good. You first went with the least costly fix.

Good job. A great start.

Neighbor's car last Thursday pulled into the driveway after a return trip to San Diego. Dash lights flashing... sounds buzzing... wouldn't restart. Told wife to see if they wanted me to look at it. No. I've a ST of tools (work on my G80 and 986). Newer car (lots of electronics) so I said I can go jump it. Asks. No. Told wife to tell them to throw a new battery in it (least costly). It's hot/it bakes in the high desert. If it's not the battery... bad alternator. Maybe... MAYBE a bad main fuse.

Car was back last night. $700 for a new battery and alternator... and tow.

KISS.
