We have a 2019 tahoe premier with bose system. Does not have rear entertainment system.

A couple of months ago, it started randomly opening apps, screen wasn't responsive, it would "ghost touch" or move and open items without being prompted.

In looking online, all signs pointed to the digitizer being bad. I bought a new one and paid an installer to swap it out. But no luck. We had no change whatsoever.

Any ideas on what to do next? I looked into an aftermarket stereo but when adding all the harnesses and decoders to make existing cameras, steering wheel controls, bose etc. work; even a low end stereo is $1500 or so after install.

We are planning on keeping this vehicle for 2 to 3 more years.

our 2017 Silverado did the same thing. I ordered a cheap digitizer on ebay and did it myself. It was a bit tricky, but if you've ever replaced a laptop screen or a phone battery you should be able to do it.

I think the digitizer was like 15 bucks.

I have no experience with this specific issue. That said, I'd try disconnecting the steering wheel controls and see if the problem stops.

I already replaced the digitizer with no luck. That is what seems to cause this issue most times.

The steering wheel controls work fine. I can't see where they would effect this.

I'd look on Crutchfield for a replacement.

They have $200-$300 replacements with Airplay, etc (just make sure you get a wireless one, assuming that's what you want)

For like $15 they'll prewire a harness for you, and if you need a new mounting face, they're around $30.

The install is pretty easy, and their customer service is an actual person who will walk you through it, if you get stuck.

This is also a good suggestion. The controls might work, but you might have a loose/bad connection that's causing it to freak out at times.

Worth disconnecting to see if it solves the issue before you spend any $.

I will look into the steering wheel controls. But volume and seek are not really the culprit. The stereo randomly opens apps, etc that the steering wheel controls have nothing to do with.

According to Crutchfield/Cartoys, a new stereo would be around $1,000 to $1,500 all in with install. According to them, in addition to a new stereo/head unit, I would have to purchase a bose decoder, and added harnesses for the steering wheel controls as well as the cameras.

I replaced the screen itself (which i think is different than the "digitizer" referenced above. There are you tube videos on how to do it with links to the screen. I think i paid around $200 for the Chinese screen versus $1200 from the dealer. New screen fixed it, although every once in a while after being parked in the hot sun, my screen is blank until the screen cools down.

I did this on my 2015 for about 40 bucks plus my time. Kind of like replacing an iPhone screen. If you are in CS I might be able to do it for you

Does the original battery remain in the vehicle? Batteries going bad can be wonky.
