Well, I sold my Miata and my motorcycle and used that money, plus a bit more, to upgrade.

After searching for a certain vehicle for about 6 months, one popped up in Phoenix last week. I negotiated a deal, and flew out to Phoenix on Thursday to purchase the car. I spent the rest of Thursday (6hrs) and Friday (10 1/2hrs) driving the 1100 miles home. Drive went perfect.

Here is my new beauty: 2015 Jaguar F-Type S - 29,254 miles when I purchased. So far I am loving it. 2015 Jaguar F-Type S

Every now and then manufacturers have had Arizona specific rebates on new vehicles. I realize that doesn't apply to your purchase obviously. One of my sons was looking for a Ram truck last year and I was able to find a deal that he ran by a couple dealers in San Antonio and they couldn't match so he flew here, picked up the truck, spent the night with me and drove it home.

Yes it is! I will miss the manual transmission and the go-cart personality of the Miata. That said, this car is a completely different animal.

This one has over $14k in options, including the performance package, and I can't wipe the smile from my face when I'm behind the wheel. It's 11 years old and honestly looks like it just came off the showroom floor. It will be a weekend vehicle for me mostly, as I'll only be putting about 3K or so miles per year on it. Hopefully I'll get many years of fun out of it like I did the Mazda.

At least Jag uses the ZF8, which is the only automatic transmission I've ever owned that was somewhat enjoyable to drive. If I had to have another torque converter automatic performance car, the ZF would be the only acceptable option.

I've had Chevy's 10 speed in a Silverado and it was smooth but unbelievably boring programming. I currently have Ford's version of that transmission in my Raptor and even with the best custom TCU tune money can buy it leaves a lot to be desired compared to the stock tune ZF8 in my wife's former Challenger T/A 392.

Your Jag should pair with that transmission nicely. Having paddle shifters that work as they should and drive modes that can control TQ lockup and shift firmness is a game changer for automatic sports cars.

I have no idea what any of this means, but I can't believe the OP downgraded from a Miata to a Jaguar!

Basically, torque converter automatics have a history of being hot garbage that significantly degrade the driving experience of performance cars versus their manual transmission alternatives.

The Euros fixed most of the problems with a tq automatics when they designed the ZF 8 speed; however, they're still not as much fun as a manual. Of course they are a little more convenient and widely available.

The Americans tried to copy the ZF with a Ford/GM collaboration 10 speed and failed badly. The ZF is used in a plethora of European cars and most Stellantis products since 2015.
