I've been wanting to get my under-carriage to match the restoration of the exterior paint & interior so I reached out to Rafael @ Artic Blasting in Lewisville. Wow! This is the most satisfying thing I've done so far to the FZJ80. If you want to restore years of grime and grease back to factory new, I can't recommend this enough:

The difference looks amazing. If you don't mind, what is the ballpark cost for this?

$200/hr. $1200 will get it looking brand new if you just look at it from the underside. I did a 2nd round that got everything back to the body panel.

Looks amazing.

Does it not damage hoses, wiring, plastics?

Pretty common on BAT vehicles these days and for good reason. Results look great!

Thanks for sharing the pricing info, I've looked at a few 80's that would need to spend some time with a blaster of some type.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm looking to get the 1999 Expedition repainted soon and this would do the trick for the undercarriage.

Looks like their IG is here:

Very effective method of cleaning all sorts of things. Leaves no particles, residue or any kind of contaminant. For that reason we use this process for cleaning the insides of large industrial turbines and compressors.

Walk us through the process.

They use the dry ice and that removes all the gunk and junk... what do they apply after that?

Are there consumer models of this? I watched some videos on IG and one person is taking undercoating from fender wells... the next one is cleaning up their steering wheel/interior! What regulates how much it cuts or removes?

It's just PFM. I don't know more than what I've done to my rig and seen on YT, but from what I've experienced the dry ice pellets work as a mechanical abrasive that is also going from a state of solid to gas and there is an element of expansion that aids in removing years of gunk. I've watched them blast away caked on grease&mud from the metal gas tank, plastic wire looms and rubber bushings all with the same wand. No change in settings

The ceramic coating applied afterward is Feynlab Industrial Coating.

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I never heard of this before. I wonder if it would work for intake valves on GDI engines. That way you don't have to try and vacuum out a bunch of walnut shells...
