So this is exactly what I did until my lights got replaced. Bumper is still steel, so you can hang them from the underside, but you need to take them off and put them away if it's raining or the housing will fill up with water.

My neighbor here in San Antonio got one of his stolen this weekend. They got scared off before they got the second one. I put the security screws in mine and have a tonneau cover, but just waiting for my turn.

You should send that picture to Ford along with an invoice for the engineering to fix their bad design. Tell them you have some ideas on fixing the crappy door locks too.
