Im pretty sure my 21 tacoma was totalled this morning( not my fault) in a collision. They haven't confirmed it yet but..

Anyway, im in the market for a truck. I i tended to keep that truck for many more years. I really do not want a full-size, especially with all the problems these goofy turbo v6 trucks are having. I've heard nightmares about Rangers, and I can't afford one if I could get one.

How is the new gen tacoma? I'm dreading all this...I just want my truck working and not t boned by some dip wad on a phone.

Following. My company will make me get a new truck this year if I want to keep my car allowance.

I think they look cheesy and lame. Waiting to see a crew cab with the 6' bed, though.

Edit to say I'm probably being harsher than I should because I'm just disappointed with what Toyota has done with their truck line as far as complicating their drivetrains and apparently reducing their reliability.

I just think they're no longer a standout among the other trucks.

I'd go Frontier at this point.

I kind of like the looks tbh. I'm just worried about reliability tbh.

Im not a big "infotainment" and frills person. My current truck is an sr5, but i honestly would have been fine with the base model. The only fancy thing I like on this truck is the adaptive cruise control system.

The silence on this topic is deafening!

Which saddens me because I'd really like the Tacoma to be solid. But who wants a turbo 4 banger in this vehicle? If you don't want a turbo V6 in a full size, you shouldn't want a turbo V4 in a mid size truck either, right?

I think the best looking midsize truck is the gmc canyon at4

I feel that 100%, but we don't have a ton of options.

Are they reliable? Mom has a first gen that's held on for a loooong time, but i don't know anything about the newer ones.

I have read about a lot of transmission issues with the new Tacoma. I don't think the issue is as big as the engine issue with the Tundra.

I have a friend of mine with the 24 trdpro Tacoma and loves it. Prior he had a 2022 raptor and a 2019 raptor. Said the Tacoma is easy to drive, easy to park, and feels better made than any ford he's driven. He is in the oil patch so his trucks see a lot of abuse

You can read through here for a lot of general information and issues people are having with their 4th gens. Generally it seems positive, but I'm not giving up my 2014.

That said, if you're considering a camper shell in the future, get a Lexus GX and be done.
Many people that add a camper shell to have waterproof lockable storage end up being disappointed that it'll leak, etc over time - some end up moving to a 4Runner, but it has less power and lower amenities vs the GX. The GX can also carry 4 adults (and better fits rear-facing car seats) if that matters to you.

No camper she'll in my future, I usually have a shark rack on the bed to fish off of.

Got the good news this morning that they're fixing my '21. Jack ass did 18k in damage to it, but with prices as they are its getting repaired. The body shop it's at has a great reputation, im hoping everything will be right once it's done.

It's at 75k, and I owe less than 10 on it now. I'm hoping the thing is still around at 200k miles. You can have my v6 when you pry it from my cold dead hands

My friend bought a new 4x4 Nissan frontier that's pretty nice and way more affordable than Toyota. He loves it

Well... they came back today, the floor is wrinkled halfway across the cab.

Looks like I'm shopping

Read where the transmission issue with the new Tacomas was a limited number of units.

So we'll see.

I think they look great. Engines are smaller, but that is the future. the Tundras had engine building issues, but they decided to replace the engines on the ones impacted. that goes a long way for me on maintaining their reputation. Chevy and ford would have just kept fixing it, and they would have been in the shop all the time. However, I am keeping my old V8 tundra and V6 4Runners as long as I can.

I drove a full size Chevrolet yo ight while looking at the colorado.... is the 4 cylinder a piece of junk? It had decent enough power, probably comparable to the older 6. I don't tow a lot.... kinda digging it.

Also test drove a tacoma and a tundra. The tacoma was nice, im very much liking it. The tundra felt cheap and flimsy tbh, and the gas mileage absolutely sucks.

The Elevation package gives you a similar look closer to 40K

Should absolutely be on the list.

After spending a whole day in all the new Toyota/Lexus trucks/SUVs I came away really liking how the Frontier drives. A little heavier feeling so not to everyone's taste, but if you like a more old school feel you're gonna like the Frontier. Power steering is not over boosted like everything else these days. Leaf springs in the rear is meh. I liked the the sight lines out of it.

Unfortunately the test drive eliminated the Colorado for me last night. Im gonna be honest, the front seat is just too tight for me to be comfortable, especially on long trips or trying to nap while we're camping on the beach fishing.

Im going to look at a nissan in the next couple of hours actually. The only thing I'm worried about is resale. But if they give me even 1000 more than the repair maximum on the truck, I'll have 20k down and SHOULD be right side up driving off the lot.

Like the look of that Frontier Pro4x. Bonus points: they let you buy the premium audio as a stand-alone add-on. First time I've seen someone offer that without also having to buy their navigation. Hopefully, that is becoming the norm now.
