F150 mirrors without blind spot warning lights?

I finally bought my boys a used F150 STX to share and the mirrors do not have blind spot warning lights. That was a surprise, as I have not driven another vehicle without them in probably 15+ years. Anyhow, I thought I'd ask the numerous F150 gurus here on the Auto board if it is a simple thing the swap those mirrors out with other Ford mirrors that do have them (maybe from an XLT or Lariat). The mirrors do have power, so there is an electrical connection already.

BTW, I'm having PPF installed on the front end and a spray in bedliner added. I'll do a Rule 1 post when I get it back.

Does it have the sensors?

I'd caution you off the PPF strongly. On the mirrors the truck has to have the right sensors installed or replacing the mirrors still won't do anything. ANd my 2014 XLT does not have blind spot monitoring.

What's your opposition to the PPF?

Are the sensors not in the new mirrors? If not, i guess it wont work.

I think they are in the tail lights, but will admit I am not sure.

Yes, what is your opposition? We have it on 4 other cars and its been great (front end, behind wheel wells and in door cups. No rock chips, even after 10 years of driving. No yellowing, cracking or peeling so far either.

I think it can be done, but may require modules, taillights, mirrors and harnesses.

There are aftermarket kits that may be easier.

Check boost auto parts.com they have aftermarket mirrors and can answer your question.

You know the treads about the dealer charging $4500 to replace 2 stolen taillights? You need to get a pair to start with.

I had the 3m protective film on a mini-van. After 3 texas summers it was hazy and cracking. Won't ever use it again. Looked terrible.

I'm sure they have the blind spot mirrors in the corners. Adjust the mirrors so that they're actually side view mirrors rather than rear view. Should be g2g after that

This is the 3rd car/truck I've had this installer do and no problems so far. I guess results vary by installer and the materials used.
