Hey everyone, I just bought a 2022 GMC Sierra SLT X31 2 weeks ago. I love how it drives but I feel like GMCs sit lower to ground than I like. I was thinking about placing a level kit with spacers but a place I called wanted me to place more of a suspension kit. When I asked about spacers he said if I wanted to go get some cheap spacers I could but he did not sound to excited about it.

I just want a leveling kit thats all. I drive mainly highway but live on some land so I do use my truck some.

Do spacers make it a rough ride? Any other cons?

Thanks!

Suspension lift will be a plusher ride and handling.

Level puck spacer will give you the look with rougher ride and handling. Nothing that would be awful or anything. People do this all the time. But there is a difference.

Find someone who will do the bilstein 5100's for you. They're adjustable height in the front

Ride quality with a suspension lift is dependent on the suspension lift you choose. $4k King coilovers will get you a plush ride, $500 Bilstein 5100s will give you a rougher ride.

As far as spacer lifts go, there are essentially two types. One goes on your strut between the spring and the top hat and adds preload to the spring to provide lift. This will give you a rougher ride but preserve suspension down travel. The second type, and this is the most common type, goes on top of your strut between the top hat and the coil bucket. This type costs you some suspension down travel but has little to no effect on your ride quality.

Since you're going for aesthetics and won't be doing any serious off-roading, a spacer that goes between the top hat and the coil bucket is probably your best option.

This! No way in hell would I do a puck lift when the 5100s are going to give you essentially a factory ride and the installation cost is the same. They're not that expensive either (<$400) for a set of two, if not cheaper.

I bought my truck and didn't know there were spacers. The ride was pretty terrible, especially off road.

I went to 5100s and it is stiffer, but I like my suspension stiff. My other vehicles have racing suspension so I'm just used to a firm ride.

Unless you have a factory off-road suspension, 5100s will absolutely not give you a factory ride, it will be somewhat stiffer. And if you use the 5100s for lifting, they work by preloading the spring which will make the ride that much stiffer. I'm not ****ting on the 5100s, you will definitely get improved handling and off-road capability, just be aware that there's a tradeoff.

With spacers, you have to be sure you know the height limitations for your particular application. Too tall and you'll be bottoming out your suspension on bigger bumps or causing your upper control arms to hit the coil bucket and you'll wear out your ball joints and other components pretty quickly. Spacers won't directly affect your ride quality, but the wrong ones can cause other problems that eventually will affect ride quality. For a leveling kit, you should be well within the limits, but do your own due diligence.

5100s to me are stiffer. Have had two sets now and it's noticeable

I have my current Ram 1500 on clip 4 of the 7 height options. Gives me 1.5" and kept a bit of rake.
