Just came up on Facebook feed. Amazing bit of history, I saw the restored one at a show maybe 20 years ago.

These Thorco Dual Engine Ford Trucks have never been offered for sale publicly before.

There are very few machines that are of the caliber in design and provenance of the Thorco Dual Engine Fords. These trucks are in the realm of the GMC Futureliner.

These Trucks were designed at the very beginning of WWII to haul B-24 bomber components from Ford automobile plants in Michigan to Consolidated Aircraft Factories in Witchita, Kansas, Fort Worth, Texas, and SanDiego, California. In a period of a year and a half, a fleet of 96 Dual Engine trucks logged over 3,800 trips, putting over 1,600 B-24 Liberator bombers in the air. Only 46 Thorco Fords were built.

A later version was made, but the Thorco is the pinnacle of design for the Dual Engine Bomber Haulers.

At this time there are only 2 of these trucks known to exist. This listing is for both trucks. One is restored, one is not. I am the 3rd owner of both. Just to prevent questions, I will NOT separate them.

This article claims the engines were in tandem. In this truck, the engines were placed side by side

https://historicvehicles.com.au/truck-feature/fords-twin-engined-trucks/

But it appears some were built as tandem engines

$1.25 million price tag seems a little steep

The price is shocking. But he claims he has the only 2 survivors of less than 100 built. So it is definitely rare.

Supply is incredibly limited. Now we find out how strong the demand side of the equation is

It will pass everything but a gas station.

I wonder where the driver's legs went in the COE.

Interesting setup, i like the use of off-set gears to power each axle independently by motor. I wounder if they could run just one motor for economy when unloaded?
