How long do you want to ignore this user?
Went to leave town in my wife's 2023 Odyssey this evening and the damn thing wouldn't crank. I had the back hatch open for some time while loading bags, but nothing crazy. The strange part is that I could not get it to jump start by either using a battery jump pack or jumper cables. I was getting 12.2v when hooked up to the other vehicle when attempting the jump start. Upon removing jumper cables battery quickly fell down to the 5v range.

Two questions: 1. What is the trick to get this thing jump started? Is something else going on here? I can pull the battery to have it tested but it seems clear that it is shot. 2. Will the basic warranty cover the battery replacement? I've only had this thing for around 22 months. I hate to run out to Walmart to drop $200 on a battery that would have been covered by Honda.

Thanks for your help.

Not much help I know, but our older Oddy is on its 3rd alternator in 3 years. Never had trouble jumping it though.

Some light googling brought me to this information

Quote:

  • The original battery that is installed in your new Honda vehicle is covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Update: called dealer this morning. They advised me to call Honda roadside. They sent AAA to the house and they were able to get it jumped using a big jump starter.

Drove it to the dealer where they found the battery to be bad. They replaced it at no charge. Guess I got to play with house money for two years on the factory one.

Only downside is that since it was replaced under factory warranty they won't give me the normal 36 month warranty replacement on it. Since I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket I took the opportunity to get an upgraded 1600 amp jump starter that I hopefully won't have to use for a while.

Factory warranty, obviously use that...

General role of thumb. Whenever a battery, for no good reason, failed to start the vehicle... Replace it

We had an Odyssey and lived it except for 2 major issues.... Alternator kept going out repeatedly. Even with OEM replacement. Went thru 4 until one finally lasted

Then the brakes ..... That was a big gremlin even gonna couldn't figure out.

We walked away from vehicle bc of it
