As of the start of the year, my 2020 Subaru Crosstrek began making the whistling noise shown in the video linked below. I've taken it to a mechanic who said he could find nothing wrong with it. The sound went away for about a week and just started up again, usually starts once I hit highway speeds and only stops once the car is completely stopped.

I know nothing about cars and bought this one for economic reasons. I'd really like it to last, but the sound will eventually lead to me getting rid of the car if I can't make it stop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Buddy of mine thinks it's break pads but I want more opinions.

Just to update, it's the drive shaft. The guys at the service department can't explain how on TV the car protects a family of four from a nuke but can't keep its drive shaft for 5 years irl.
