Since y'all helped me navigate the blown oil cooler issue a few months back, I'm hopeful y'all can help me through the latest crisis with this 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited, front wheel drive, 9 speed ZF transmission. It's got about 136k on the meter, and my daughter has had it for almost a year and put about 11k on it. Intermittently, since shortly after purchasing it, it's thrown a P0934 code, shown a "Service Transmission" message and goes into limp mode. The code apparently relates to a pressure sensor in the transmission, but my research has not found any cases where a sensor was actually identified and replaced. It seems to be a very common problem with this transmission and most cases I've read about result in the dealer/shop resetting or clearing the code. Typically and up til now, the code either clears itself after cycling the ignition or can be cleared using a code reader and the transmission performed normally after clearing the code and message. Now the code won't clear. Yesterday, it wouldn't move when the shifter was moved through the gears. Didn't register a gear and wouldn't move. I disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes to see if that would clear the code but that didn't work. I did manage to get it to register a gear and actually move (after a couple of hard shifts into/out of reverse, drive etc), so now it seems to be back in limp mode, but the code will still not clear.

I knew this was coming, that I'd end up having to take it somewhere and I had hoped I'd have a place identified by now, but I don't. I need to find a place that is honest and could actually resolve this, even if it means worst case scenario of full rebuild or replacement.

Thanks for your help Automotive board!

I used Texas Auto Gear to recently rebuild a trans for a classic car. They were great, stuck to their price, called me with updates, and had a great result.

My project was very different from yours as my car is 60 years old, trans was out and I took it to them, and I was in absolutely no rush. But I'm sure they could help you with no issue.

Thanks for the recommendation, seems like a good place. Ideally I'd like to find a shop in NW or west Houston, I should have been more clear in the location. And it's my daughters daily driver, so turnaround will be a consideration.

Not NW Houston...
But Thunderbolt is the OG for Houston. Don't know anyone that's ever used them, but they've been around forever.

Thanks for the reply. After talking on the phone with a few shops, describing my problem, I found someone who seemed familiar with this transmission and problem at Brown Transmission/Transmission Wholesalers on Louetta. The car is there now for diagnosis. I'll update with more info as received.

Most of the time, repairs exceed the value of this thing at this point. Just keep that in mind.

That is my primary concern here. In that situation, I'm not sure of the best strategy for getting any value for the car while it needs major transmission work. I understand the $ I have in it now is a sunk cost and doesn't really factor in the decision to repair or not, but I know it would be worth something, even needing a new transmission. But who would buy it or take it as a trade?

Completely understandable.

Just have to keep in mind, at what point do you stop.

Cars like this typically get junked because their owners don't have the money to keep fixing them, and then get in the trap of rolling over negative equity into the next subprime heap that will last them for the next 18mos.

In your case, you're not in the position, but I just hate to see you sink 7500 bucks into something worth 7500 bucks.

If the repair cost is high, an option is to sell it as a "mechanic's special" on Craigslist. A mechanic might buy it and repair it himself for a lot less. You won't get a lot for it, but more than scrap.
