Have a 2021 F150 Powerboost, threw up some battery/powertrain warnings... took it in and they told me they found a rodent nest (no rodents), but a lot of damage to my cabling. Said I'm "lucky" they didn't get the Powerboost cable (battery pack) as that's an $8,000 replacement job.

Guess their replacment cost for (a) splice/ job and (b) full harness replace job...

We had rodents enter our garage and laundry room, multiple, the second time this year.

2 weeks ago I got free service from the company that did the first job, and they apologized. They also placed deodorizers in the garage after removing 3 carcasses.

Just an fyi I saw an ad for some pepper infused tape you can wrap around the more expensive wires you might want to look into as a future preventative measure.

Just spent the last two hours finding and removing a rat from beneath the cowl and wiper mechanism.

I've had squirrels chew wires before and my mechanic has me put moth balls and tie them off in a pantyhose.

Smells but seems to do the trick

Rodents destroyed my G35 over COVID. Over the span of about a year the horn relay failed (on), brake light failed, ABS failed, cruise control failed, speedometer failed, radiator fan failed resulting in the car overheating and the radiator splitting open.

Red McCombs Ford, SA :

A) $1300, doing a "splice fix" after ordering correct wire(s) that takes 3+ days.

B) $4500, doing a full harness complete replacment back to "factory standard".

If I get insurance involved, and adjustor has to visit to verify, they require option (B).

Yes, in a very common/normal neighborhood. Granted it's not driven EVERY day... sometimes 2/3 times a week, but not a country neighborhood.

Squirrel got the main harness on a Tahoe several years ago. Actually severed about 15 wires. Took me half a day with soldering gun and shrink wrap to repair. Spent other half a day shooting squirrels.

Many a squirrels fell outta trees when I lived in Bryan from my trusty pellet gun for reasons just like this. In a short period I took out a little less than 20

$6800 for a single wire chewed through on my Telluride. It was part of the airbag harness so splicing wasn't an option and nearly the entire interior had to be removed to replace the harness. I turned it over to insurance and was just out my deductible.

I had an ex-girlfriend that had a freezer full of squirrels. But they were so skittish around their place that it was difficult to find one and even harder to get a clean shot at one.

Squirrel enchiladas are actually quite good.

I went that route. I have AAA for insurance, and they made this shockingly easy. Called me to say they were sending an adjustor to confirm and that my rental car was automatically ordered and waiting for me down the street at their closest dealer... just show up and it's done. Said car was good for up to a full month as that repair can take time...

Shocked at how easy it's been on insurance, my first claim in over 30+ years at least.

Another reason why insurance is so expensive
