Having a spray-on bedliner installed after Christmas.

I took the plastic cover off the tailgate (they'll spray it), and put the screws back on to keep the metal piece attached.

The screws don't screw all the way in. Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do?

I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Guessing the screws are sized to hold the plastic down without being tight enough to crack the plastic. If that's the case, pull the bolts out, cut them shorter, then reinstall.

What agnerd said. Maybe buy a die to clean up the threads after cutting.

Or buy some black plastic/rubber washers. Like a whole bag full.

Find/buy the proper bolts for trim packages that don't have the plastic bed liner?

Yeah, haven't been able to find those yet.

This is the screw. The original plastic bed liner was thicker, thus, it had the un-threaded thicker part on the shaft of the screw. Since the new spray-in bedliner is thin, I don't need that unthreaded part.

Measured the screw. It is 6 mm wide and 1.5 mm long. Going to try to see if I can find something comparable at the hardware store.

Ok. On my Ford that cover is held on with a pan head bolt with conventional threads. Didn't realize they were using that coarse wood screw style thread on those.

Check the specialty fasteners in the hardware aisle at lowes or a good Ace. You might be able to find a plastic screw without the spacer. You're going to want it flush or you'll catch them when you slide stuff across the tailgate. Might also ask the bedliner folks, surely you're not the first to deal with this.
