I have a 2016 Yukon Denali with 120k miles and just put in a new battery 2 months ago

In the last few weeks, sometimes when I go to start it, I get nothing, it doesn't try to start, it doesn't click like a dead battery, just totally not trying to start. I do have inside lights, dashboard etc all good.

Then I push the start button again and it starts right up like nothing is wrong.

There is no consistency of when it does this and doesn't do this.

Any thoughts of what to look for?

Have not tried that yet. It is a push button start ignition

Probably the starter. Had this issue on my 2014 with the same symptoms. Forgot to say, It will become more frequent then quit all together

Make sure you have good car battery… that year model is a juice hog at startup. Weird stuff starts happening if battery is going bad

It's like Apollo 13… you have to shut stuff off and turn it on in the right order just to get back home

Is there a way to test a starter?

If it gets more regular, you could have someone try and start it, and get under the truck and listen. You should be able to hear if it's not engaging.

I had a similar issue on my 2015 Silverado. Turned out to be the battery. The battery wasn't that old when it started happening. Happened on and off for the next year or so until I changed the battery out.

Starter, just replaced mine on 07 yukon xl denali. I only got 2 strikes: first started with jumper pack, second started with a firm tap, third time was down for the count. Mine didn't click or anything either. If yours is awd like mine its a tight fit but you can get it out without taking a bunch of extra stuff off. Work through the passenger wheel well, remove all the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts and push the heat shield up out of the way, remove the clip on heat shield from the starter/solenoid and you can just barely sneak it out between the framerail and exhaust manifold. Don't know how much the frame changed with the next body style but suspension and motor are the same so it's probably the same

It's mostly the same. It's a little easier on the older models, but not by much. It's one of the few parts I've changed where it's easier to get the new one in than the old one out.

On mine it was easier getting the new one in because it wasn't covered in oil from my leaking valve cover!

It happens with both remotes

It is currently in the shop, so will report on what they find out.

Evidently they are also saying that the electrical cables can build up resistance over time (very common in gmc trucks but some Yukons as well), and when they build up resistance, they don't transmit the voltage to start the car
