We have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler X with about 150k miles and we have to remove the fuel tank to fix a cracked connection (common Jeep issue). Should I just go ahead and replace the fuel pump even though I dont seem to be having any issues with it?

The answer ... maybe.

You just don't want to buy a cheap pump or you'll probably be doing it again. OEM can be pricey, and the knockoffs are cheaper to be sure. If you do choose a knockoff, get one that's well reviewed.

Fun job. No time to be lighting up a big cigar either.

You could replace it and have some peace of mind, or you could be replacing a perfectly functional part and throwing away money.

Run to failure is great if its a non-critical part or if the part is easy to replace. My vote is replace the pump with a known manufacturer's brand new part while you are doing the other work.

My thinking was to replace it with a Delphi pump from Autozone for about $227. I know that isnt OEM, but it seems to get decent ratings....any thoughts on that?
The OEM part from Jeep is like another $100 or more

Correction..the OEM Fuel pump is $250 more

Do you have to drop the tank to replace the pump or can you access it through seat floor? If you have to drop the tank I'd replace but only if you see yourself keeping the vehicle another 5+ years

Have you searched the part number online. There are a couple of dealers that have high volume parts business and discount to list price at your local store.

I have to drop the tank to fix the cracked connection, so I figure it might be best to just replace it now. I dont think there is a hole through the floor board based on what I have seen from other fb posts on the subject.

So I dropped the tank and looked at the fuel pump. It had fairly new fuel lines and a "Denso" fuel pump. I am not certain, but I don't think it's the original fuel pump, so my guess is that fuel pump has around 50 - 100k miles on it maybe. I decided not to remove and replace it.

I gauge these things on how hard they are to do. My fuel pump died at 420k miles. It was a ***** to replace. If I had the tank out anyway, at 150k miles, I would absolutely replace it with OEM. I would replace all rubber, hoses, plastic, anything that even eyeballed me funny....it would get replaced.
