I've never had a total loss on a vehicle either personal or my business (20yrs). I assume that I just take whatever amount they offer and then go find another truck? I was rather surprised that they made it a total loss. 87 yr old man hit the gas instead of the brake at the stop sign and hit my truck. Luckily everyone was ok.
I originally sent it to Caliber collision and then they realized after 10 days that they didn't have a big enough frame puller so they sent it to one of the Ford dealers in FW and after the supplemental they declared it a loss.

Appreciate any advice.

no! find comps for sale to make sure they are giving you the full amount. highly unlikely their initial offer will be fair. you'll want to negotiate.

I can't tell what trim level that truck is or the miles on it. It looks like a work truck...maybe an XL? 28k sounds pretty decent for the first offer. That said, I would ask for more just because. Good luck!

You should get JD Power RETAIL plus tax plus anything you have receipts for things like tires if recently purchased

I'd take that $28k and run. After asking for more and getting turned down. Lol

The condition the rest of that truck is in, I bet they're gonna get more than 28k selling off the other parts.

Insurance companies just wholesale them. Somebody may do what you say.

Former adjuster here....

Insurance company owes you what you would have been able to sell the truck for(private party) to another individual(private party) right before the accident in "as is" condition. They do not owe you "retail" pricing, ie dealership list pricing, which is usually higher than an individual selling a vehicle as a dealership factors in cost of reconditioning, advertising, commissions, etc into the value and a list price( at least pre covid) is a starting point for negotiations

With that being said, make sure the insurance company has the correct mileage, options, trims levels, etc. Any recent repairs, etc might add a small percentage back to the value, but not a $ for $ addition. If you want to use a guide book, look at KBB private party or similar to get a rough idea what the value should be. They also owe sales tax on what the preloss value of the truck was and plate/registration fees for your vehicle. Also, the insurance company will probably get 40% or more of the value at the salvage auction for your truck, that for sure factored into the decision to total it out.

No. They owe you what it will cost to replace your vehicle with an equivalent vehicle. Most likely that vehicle is going to be at a dealer so that's what it's going to cost to replace. Don't forget to make them cover taxes and registration. You aren't choosing to replace your vehicle. Their client made that choice for you. They are responsible for making you whole.

They owe you ACV.

ACV and what it costs you to get another one just like it aren't the same in some cases. It's a subtle difference in verbiage that matters.

Our 2000 7.3 was in an accident and it was considered totaled. To get one and the same condition will cost me 25,000-30,000. But the ACV on the truck is 11,000. You get a check for ACV.
