How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's a milestone anniversary coming up so I want to buy my wife a SUV (she prefers SUVs to sedans. She has one right now, a 2011 model. I want to buy her something which is in the Audi, Mercedes level. Any suggestions? I bought my last car 10 years ago so am clueless about what is out there.

The price I am thinking is $50-60k.
Any brands more expensive than this? Any brands to avoid?

When those two statement are combined, I hope that means you're thinking used, and not that you can get a new Audi or Mercedes at that price range. That's Ford and Chevy price range now. If you want new Audi or Mercedes, you're gonna need to add at least $20k to those numbers.

Well, I'm joking, like everyone here he wants feedback from successful purchases from others. My wife will look at a photo of a car and thumbs up or down based on aesthetics, not sure anything else matters to her. I buy her cars optioned out and then she never touches the sunroof, never uses adaptive cruise. She has pretty basic needs around cars - WHICH I DONT RELATE TO AT ALL

I think both Audi Q3 and Audi Q5 are in that price range, although you may consider them Crossovers and not an SUV

Used but not by much.
Looking for model year 2024 that has less than 10k miles. I bought my car that way 10 years ago.

If I have to add some more, I will consider. I last bought a car in 2014, so there is some amount of sticker shock.

I am buying something for her. She doesn't "want" anything. She currently has a 10+ year old Highlander.

You are right, it is 25 years.

However the difference is I won't just buy because someone here recommended it. I will use that to do my research. I have also gotten some good stock tips on the investing board that made me a lot of money over the past years so TA has a lot of smart people.

Q3 seems a bit too small. Minimum of Q5 as it has to be comparable to her Highlander.
I have to go to the dealership to actually see them this week.

CPO Lexus RX350 or BMW X5.

If she's coming from a Highlander, the GX will be too truck like.

The RX shares the Highlander platform. X5 if she would prefer German.

Lexus TX

A new Highlander

They have good deals on Nissan Armadas now in the range brand new.

You could get an XLT Expedition in that range possibly.

Look at the Genesis GV80.

We really like the QX60 we recently got.

A family member has the Audi Q7. It's ok. Just very...clean...not as comfy if that makes sense.

What size vehicle is she comfortable with? We're in a similar spot in life (30 years) and our kids are grown and gone. When they were kids and she was hauling them around everywhere she drove an Expedition. When they were teenagers and mostly hauling themselves around she downsized to a Ford Escape and has liked that size. Right now she has a Cadillac SRX and really likes it but when we get rid of it she'll go down again to a Cadillac XT4 which is her favorite right now.

If she isn't hauling kids all the time that small crossover segment has some good stuff. The XT4, BMW X1 and X3, and the Mercedes GLB and GLC are good options in the smaller sizes and they'll all fit that budget.

Is she/you opposed to a Tesla? We just bought me a Model Y and it's been fantastic so far. Not sure Mrs LOYAL AG would get one but she really likes it as my car.

I am not very familiar with the Genesis brand but I see some driving around. I will check it out.

The other requirement is I am not just buying "an SUV" for her, I am buying her an anniversary gift, so there is some amount of paying for the brand involved. The goal is not to just get her from A to B, but also for her to feel good that she is driving something nice, somewhat expensive. Of course, that is subjective but it is compared to where we were in terms of affordability. She always felt that we could not afford some things others could but now we can thanks to my investing success, so I am trying to make her feel happy for the occasion.

So no Honda, Nissan, Toyota etc. We got past those 20 years ago. I am looking for Mercedes, Audi and (maybe) up. I am flexible with budget depending on how I feel about the brand.

This is not a surprise. I agree a surprise for something like this is a bad idea. I already told her I want to get her a nice car and proposed an Audi. Our anniversary is mid next year. I am just looking for what else is there so I am asking the cool people here. Once I narrow it down, I will shortlist based on budget and have her test drive, and make the final selection. It will be a long process and the goal is for her to be happy, not go "yay...oh..... wtf?"

SUV. We currently have a 2011 Highlander, so about that size.
We don't need 3rd row seating anymore as the kids are teen and 20. We need some space for "stuff" if we need to lug around.

I have a BMW 3 series, so avoid BMW for her. Merc is an option.

She seems to like Tesla but I find it boxy but then maybe I should look into it more.

Given her vehicle is 13 years old and you haven't bought a car in the last 10 years, it seems like y'all drive cars for a decade or more, so my advice is to not look at the Germans. They're beautiful and fun, but will leave you in bankruptcy unless you leave her first.

If my assumption is the accurate, I would look at the Japanese luxury lines.
- Lexus RX or GX...or TX if you need a 3 row
- Infiniti QX
- Acura MDX

The diving experience isn't going to be what the German gals will be, but they'll treat you right and grow old with you.
