I'm looking to scratch an itch. Wife and I live an hour+ from Dallas and make several trips there monthly in either her Yukon or my 2500. We need those vehicles. I would like a smaller fun/nimble car for those short trips and just something when I want to have some fun. My hairline isn't what it used to be so maybe it's to fill a void does anyone have any experience with the CT4 V series? I'm a GM fanboy but also like the BMW 3/4 series but they have too many models/series I can't seem to figure out what's what.

It's going to depend on how much fun you want to have, what type of fun, and your budget.

CT4
CT4 V
CT4 V Blackwing auto
CT4 V Blackwing manual

BMW 330i
M340i
M3

BMW 430i
M440i
M4
Coupe or Grand Coupe

All are very different. For real fun, the Blackwing and M340i or M440i are your choices. The M3 and M4 are too expensive, especially when the Blackwing is arguably as good at 2/3rds the price…and they come with a manual transmission.

You can find a low mileage auto CT4 V Blackwing for mid-50s. That's a screaming deal for what you get.

Exactly the type of help I was looking for. Don't mind spending some bucks, but the M series do seem excessive albeit sweet rides. Thank you!

I wouldn't sleep on Audi.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I'll add on to this thread. I am in a similar situation, but a smaller budget. Wife has a Honda Pilot for hauling people or stuff. It's also great for road trips.

I drive fewer miles. Live close to work. I should be a perfect candidate for an EV, but, I just can't do it.

I'm 67. I want something quiet, moderately fast and comfortable. Looking to buy lightly used.

I've narrowed my choices to
Caddy CT5
Genesis G70/G80
Audi A5/6/7
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Bought a 2022 m340i a few months ago w 11k miles. Very nice and fun car to drive. However, the high insurance cost surprised me. I think it's because they cost so much to repair. I would get an insurance quote before you buy.

People will scoff at a Genesis because Korea. But the G70 with 3.3L turbo is a whole lotta car. You can cruise around like an old man but then put your right foot to the firewall when getting on the interstate and launch yourself into the next county.

$52-55k for a brand new one. I'd take that over the base Cadillac or the base Audis all day every day.

Is it your DD? Look at Hagerty if not. My M6's stated value policy through them is ~$500 a year for full coverage.

USAA was about 3x that. Others were 4-5x.

My 2025 is my DD @ 2200 per year. Not sure if that's bad or not.

I narrowed it down to the G70 and Acura TLX Type S. Went with the Acura but the G70 was much better than expected. My preference was sporty, but if I favored luxury the G70 would have won out. I love my TLX though and would buy it again

Have a friend with a TLX-S. His wife drives it. They love it.

Good choice.

I'd add to this AWD vs RWD if you think weather might be an issue. M-cars are insane for the most part. They WAY underrate their HP numbers. They are screamers, but might be unnecessary for the everyday driver unless you are looking to track them.

Don't sleep on the M2 competition that is still available with a manual transmission either.

Audi RS3 is a little monster, and comes in AWD. RS5 is also more than capable, but it's near the same price point of the M3 and can't really hold it's own against it.

If I could get any car for a comfortable, capable daily diver, I'd look long and hard at the Lexus LS500. It's effectively a 2-seater as the back seats are just there for small child or a bag, but that naturally aspirated engine is amazing.

IS500?

99% sure he means the LC 500.

The LS 500 is a big car and has a twin turbo V6. The IS 500 is still a 4-door and the back seat is fine.

The LC 500 shares the 5.0 V8 with the IS 500 and has 911-sized rear seats...but starts at $100k. Used, they're still in the $80k range. Probably outside of what the OP is wanting price-wise.

Sorry, yeah - the LC with the 5.0. If we are talking M-cars, then I assumed this might be something worth considering

The Lexus LC and the BMW M series are definitely
More than I want to spend, and more car than I need for sure! I appreciate all the insight from everyone! The more I've looked I am really liking the Cadillac CT4 v-Blackwing…which is probably still more than I need.
