I've been looking at the Z06 for a few weeks and am curious how you like the car?

Positives? Negatives?

Thanks and Gig'em!

This is going to be a really small population of respondents. They're pretty damn expensive and not all that common yet. Then you are further narrowing that to Texags posters.

Positives: Looks better than the Stringray
Negatives: It's not a ZR1

If over 90% of the driving time is on the streets, I would lean more towards the E-Ray. More useable power driving around town, uses the same body panels of the Z06, similar suspension, and Z06 carbon ceramic brakes are standard

I talked to the sales guy at Chevy and he said ZR1 may not ship with the 1064 advertised. They're having problems with the engine apparently. Additionally, I can get 06 LZ2 trim at 130. The ZR1 would cost 180-200 and that's before, per the sales rep, the 100K dealer uplift they're going to charge over sticker. So, the ZE1 will be 300K for the next few years. It's probably a good investment (do we say that about cars?) but I'm not spending 300K on a corvette, no offense to corvette fans.

$100K dealer uplift (?)?

**** that. I'm not going to be laughed at as I'm driving away in a ****ing Chevy.

I recently watched this video and it made me more accepting of the E-Ray. They bring up some good points about the power being more useable. I have no idea how the reliability will compare between the E-Ray and Z06. Seems like the E-Ray is less likely to end up wrapped around a light pole outside of Cars & Coffee.

Also ran across this comparison of the two:

You buy the zo6 for the engine and that's it. No one buying that car is going to use it for what it's made for. Ok, maybe a select few with the coin to track it enough to push the limits. Outside of that everyone driving a Zo6 wouldn't even use a stingray to its potential.

If you want that engine and that rev noise then go for it. It's a bad man!

The ZR1 is strictly an investment. Most if not all ZR1's are worth what their MSRP if not more. Just not $100k more.

I don't know much about the e-Ray other than what I've read. Haven't driven one and won't ever consider purchasing one. Once corvette goes electric that's when I stop buying corvettes. Yes I understand the e Ray is a hybrid but I digress.

Venture over to corvette forum.com. It's the texags of corvettes. There are some decent deals on pre owned z06's as well if that floats your boat. Good luck and update us on what you decide to do.

Here's a video where they do a roll race between the E-Ray and Z06. They claim the E-Ray is faster 0-120, at which point the Z06 is faster. From a dead stop the E-Ray would win handily. The Z06 would need quite the runway to eventually pass the E-Ray in that scenario. This video is a little confusing because the two cars are the same color.

I don't care that a v8 with electric motors is faster. Did unwanted faster, I would go buy a tesla plaid and walk both corvettes in the quarter.

The Z06 sounds amazing. The flat plane crank is effectively a Ferrari in an American made car.

On point.

You're def a car guy. Get what makes you happy not what someone else thinks.

Caring more about the sound a sports car makes than the performance of said sports car is what makes you a car guy?

It's definitely a sliding scale. The Tesla Plaid can pretty much beat any stock car in the 1/4 mile but I would never own one because there is no cold start.

My criteria for cars.

1. Looks
2. Performance
3. Sound
4. Resell value.

5.0 mustangs sound awesome but I would never own one because I think they're ugly. Everyone has their own criteria and one over the other doesn't make or exclude your car guy status.

To be fair, aftermarket exhaust is probably 99% of the first purchases by car guys.

On the Mustang side I would lean towards a GT350 over a GT500 purely on flat plane crank sounds. Add better sound to my positives for the Z06

Sure, I mean the tesla plaid is a bit of a red herring, I fully agree with that. I just found that exchange funny with regard to the e-ray vs the z06

I think it's cool that Chevrolet did the e-ray from an engineering perspective, but I wouldn't buy one over the z06. I also am not sure who the buyer is for the e-ray in the corvette market.

Just to be clear, I was never considering the e-ray. I'm curious to hear from any z06 owners.

Can't beat the sound and feeling of a Z06. Experience it once and you'll be hooked

I like Corvettes, but not sure what you do with them if you don't actively do track days. Is a zo6 a usable upgrade from a base model if you just drive it to work and back?

do you like to accelerate like a SOB and hear bad ass V8 sounds, even if you're just commuting? if so, yes

Got behind one earlier this week in some traffic and the guy hardly ever shifted out of first. I cracked the windows to enjoy it a bit more. One of the few times I smiled while sitting in traffic.

That comparison was for the S550 versions. I had a 2014 GT500 that I regret trading in. The deep rumble of the 5.8L at cold starts was nice
