That's because I have no interest in explaining to you or having a pedantic debate about the differences for instance between a 20-30 year old European diesel car or an ATV vs. the Chevy duramax this thread is discussing.

So you got nothing. Thanks. Stop cluttering the thread with nonsense for the engine in question so people can make a real decision.

And the 328d is only a few years old. Not 20-30. The 3.0 duramax is far closer to it (328d was an 2.0l) and other small euro diesels than the 6.7 workhorses. It's small, heats up quickly, and is just fine for short runs.

BMW also made a 3.0 diesel of their own in the X series vehicles that were also not designed just for long runs and towing. Pretty much pure grocery getters. Any diesel in this size category is going to be fine for soccer mom use.

Only thing I can add here is to plug the awesomeness of the recent 3.0L BMW diesels that met their untimely demise in the US market (thanks VW for the scandal). I have a 2013 X5 diesel with the M57 engine and it's an absolute beast. The later N57 and B57 improved even more, although finding a B57 here involves also finding a 540d sedan which were only brought over in miniscule numbers before they were cut off.

There's a huge enthusiast community around these engines and associated mods. Once you address the weak points (emissions ABCs) they are nearly bulletproof

I have a 2021 AT4 with the 3.0 that i've had since late 2020. It currently has ~ 72k of reliable operation with just normal maintenance (Oil/Air/Fuel filter changes) when the computer calculates 15-20% life remaining. DEF really hasn't been an issue, the 5 gallon tank only needs to be filled every 4000 to 5000 miles and with gas stations starting to install bulk DEF dispensers at the pump it's been increasingly easy to keep up with. Changing the oil, air and fuel filter is a breeze. I order them off of Amazon and i can change them all in a single service in less than an hour.

Mine typically makes 5 - 20 mile trips, not sure if that qualifies as grocery getter mileage but so far i haven't had any issues. I do feed it quite a few of the Lucas Oil products (Deep Clean, Oil and Fuel Additives) because i have a buddy that is a representative that gives me some samples (BTW, the Lucas Oil Diesel Anti-Gel works very well).

After 4 years and 70k+ miles getting a combined City/Hwy mileage of ~24 mpg i'd be happy to recommend the 3.0 Duramax for half ton applications.

I hear really good things. Buddy has one and loves it.
If you're the guy that does 10,000 miles in the city driving from subdivision to kroger and back, probably not for you. If you're the guy that has a long commute and can really benefit from the diesel mpg & frankly better use of the motor then go for it.

I'd get one but wife preferred the Expedition on the interior side. Proof the wives can learn which fuel goes where because in 500,000 miles of diesel trucks, she's never put gasoline in it, and never tried to put diesel in the expedition.....

I had diesel gel up on me in the 20s. I treat anytime it gets below freezing now.

I think they have some issue with the newest iteration of 'super cruise' which is also delayed so they have waited to start producing the diesels until that comes out (supposed to be in a couple months). I think (but could be wrong) for some reason they are requiring that with the 3.0.

My other theory on the delay for Tahoe's etc. is just that they are trying to keep up with the pickup demand first (and Arlington is churning out as many gas powered models as they can produce, basically printing money for GM around the clock).

I think I read that they are waiting on EPA approval of the LZO on this platform, so that's causing the delay on those.

Super Cruise will not be available on the Z71 but the Diesel is so my guess is that they need production for trucks or they need to pump out gassers first to meet demand

38k miles on my 2021 Chevy Silverado. No issues. No gelling (live in Montana), just add a few gallons of #1 if it's looking super cold. Averaged 26 hand calculated
