Using Ferrari power units until '26 when they will have their own designed PU.

Chevy has won in every motorsport they have ever competed in. Any reason to think they would not find some level of success in F1? It will not come immediately, and will depend a lot on getting proper drivers, but they could do "well" in a few years time.

I see no reason why GM couldn't be successful if they made it a priority.

It'll depend on budget and staffing. If they spend like top team, maybe they'll get there. Or they could be like the others and pretend to compete.

I can literally imagine David Croft in my head about 5 years from now: "Oh no!!! And there's smoke ABSOLUTELY POURING out the back of the GM. We obviously don't know but you have to think it's *yet another* lifter failure from their AFM system. Fernando Alonso looks apocalyptically angry as he slams his fists down into his car"

Not the GM but "The Cadillac"

Should be interesting to watch.

Can we reach European levels of drama with an American team?

Correct. Currently 2nd in IMSA GTP.

With 30 months to ramp up and with access to Ferrari power units to glean information from, they can certainly compete. Hell, if they scored a single point, they'd perform better than Sauber..

If an energy drink company can win a constructers championship then GM can. And no, Red Bull isn't just a sponsor, the company actually has a motorsports division and designs the car. I believe they will be making their own power units too once the deal with Honda expires.

They've been in and out of F1 for decades. The Lotus TC engine used in early 60's was a Ford Pinto (116E) block with a cast aluminum head of their own design by Bill Costin and Bill Duckworth, that later started Cosworth. Ford and Chapman seemed to like each other. The Ford/Lotus TC was quite a bit heavier than the Renault, but it was more robust, some folks prefer the Renault because it keeps the S-1 (very rare) and the S-2 Europa extremely light, under 1,600 lbs.

Lotus terminated their agreement with Renault to supply engines, kept the transaxle deal all the way through the Esprit model.

It'll be interesting how both these guys do in F1 if they are doing the entire car. Andretti is behind the Cadillac livery, no?

Andretti Global, with Michael as president/ceo put in the bid to join F1 with Cadillac/GM as a parter. F1 initially denied their bid. But this week changed their mind. Apparently, a month or so back, Michael stepped down as president/ceo of Andretti Global.

F1 is a different world. Pretty sure Ford is replacing Honda as the powerplat for Red Bull. I suspect even that will have an impact.

Copious amounts of money and an experienced F1 director would help. Even Porsche couldn't start a team.
