I also have a '19 JLU Rubi and had an '06 TJU Rubi. If your mission is <30 miles per day on non-washboard roads or better, the 4xe is probably not a bad setup for a daily driver that doesn't look like a Prius. Take the electric 30/day and call it good. I found the 4 cyl turbo more than adequate running around town.

However, if there are extended washboard roads or more serious offroad adventures involved, I wouldn't want it. Lithium batteries don't really like abuses like water or lots of bouncing around.

In my opinion, the 4xe is a pavement princess that saves some gas.

Regularly get over 1,000 miles on a tank of gas because weekly commute is 90% electric. When it's time to play, we hook up camping trailer and go wherever TF we want to go in Colorado, new Mexico, Arizona, Big Bend, etc. open top and silent on the tails. Instant torque when needed. If it weren't for occasional battery recall issues... Siiiigh, it would be the best vehicle we've had out of about 50+different cars. Before anyone scoffs at that number, we review cars as a weekend hobby @romrreviews on YT. The 4xe is flippin awesome.

I have a GC 4xe Trailhawk, and aside from a busted water pump at 18k miles it's everything I could ask for. It covers my 15 miles of round trip commuting on battery and is more than capable off-road. For one of the handful of people who drive short distances daily but like to have an off-road capable vehicle, it's the perfect platform. I buy gas every couple of months if I'm not taking a roadtrip, and the increase in our electricity bill was negligible.

I'll just add I rented one recently not realizing it was electric hybrid that made no sound when you start it up. It took me 10 minutes to start it up and put it in gear.

Your findings sync up with what hedges1 stated in that using the Electric Range, you save 2 free tanks of gas every 1,000 miles.

@ $2.50 per gallon, you're saving about $400/yr.

However, it costs and extra $10,000 for the Hybrid 4xe not factoring in the $7,500 tax credit which looks like it might be $3,750 now.

So it's going to take either 25 years (with no tax credit), 6.25 years (with the $7,500 tax credit) or 9.375 years (with the $3,750 tax credit) to make this a break even proposition.

And I haven't even factored in the cost of charging which might be negligible.

Charging was free at my hotel in Reno but I think that was probably a come on to get NorCal people to stay there in their EVs. Since they only had 4 charging points, I guess they were only expecting 4 EV guests per night. Took about 3 hours for my 4xe Wrangler to fully charge for its 22 mile range.

The 4xe seems like a waste of effort to me.

I don't give a **** about the break even period between the 4xe and the gas version. I bought it because I thought it was cool and fit my needs. If you don't get it, then don't buy one and keep talking about how great your 25 year old Expedition is.

Well, I have a 2024 392 Wrangler as a toy. And I had a 2024 4XE as a rental in Sonoma this weekend and I thought it was great.

But my lifted 392 gets about 12mpg so the 4XE was amazing. I used e save on the drive from SFO to Sonoma and used the electric only all day Saturday driving around. Didn't plug it in and did the job. I had the opposite reaction than the OP. But I've also owned multiple Jeeps and understand their limitations and quirks.

If only they would have offered a hybrid in 1999. I'd have reached the breakeven point by now.

In fairness, I'm still getting adjusted to the "Jeeping" that folks in Texas do versus the Western United States.
