This is the 5 key pad that's on many Fords. Why in the world is this not more available, and why did Ford stop adding it? It can't be a patent issue any more.

It's just not that hard to figure out. When I'm hiking, kayaking, running, or for any other reason...sometimes I want to leave the keys in the car.

Are there any other cars out there that have, or can add, this simple feature?

Yes, we lock our car. It's entirely empty of anything other than charging cables and napkins, but we do lock the car. I'm not going to have an insurance claim denied either because it was determined car keys were left in the vehicle.

Went through a car theft last summer on a trip to San Antonio. No help from anyone changed my perspective on the matter. I don't need to make it easier on those with bad intentions.

This option was not available on some trim and models but you can always add it. To be honest with the Ford Pass app allowing you to lock/unlock the car it wouldn't surprise me if the key pad code goes away.

I use the keypad much more than I ever thought I would. I use Ford Pass app also, but it's not convenient when you're near the truck and have to deal with the delay.

How long is your delay? Mine has never been more then a few seconds.

To lock or remote start, 15 seconds minimum. I've never used it to unlock, punching a code in takes 2 seconds

Anyway, I'm kind of in a bind because my wife wants to downsize from the Expedition EL, but only if I get her a Ford with the keypad. Any thoughts on Edge vs. Explorer, say, 2015 - 2020 models with < 100K miles?

You can add the keypad as an option to the 2025 Explorer, Bronco Sport and F150.

You can add a wireless keypad as an accessory. Ford part that you just stick on and then have programed to the vehicle. Works just like the wired keypad. I enjoy mine for the same reason you want one.

I was able to program mine at work as we have Ford dealer tool access. This may can be done with Forscan too.

How does it work with keyless ignition now? My last Ford was a 2015 and had a real key. I liked being able to lock my key in the truck.

I went to the Ford online support, googled it, and called the dealer. Finally, I figured it out myself.

If you manually lock the door using the keypad, your key, the sensor on the handle, or the inside lock button, the car will automatically unlock if you approach with the key. However, if you leave the key in the car, it will stay locked if you use the keypad (press buttons 4 and 5 at same time - I renumber the buttons in my head).

I always really loved that feature on the fords I owned. Also wondered why it is not more common. That said, I can't really say I miss it much on the cars I have now without it.
