Pitted glass

How long do you want to ignore this user?
My windshield is really pitted from I guess sand and other small chips (not cracks, well…one). I do remember one instance of following a dump truck and hearing what sounded like rain falling all of a sudden a few months ago. It's pretty bad driving into the sun, but not dangerous. I can live with it, it's just annoying looking at a million little dots. I've read about polishing it, and was wondering if I have to get a specific glass polishing compound, or would something like a swirl removal compound work? Or something else that's not $80 a bottle like I've seen in a quick Amazon search? I do have a random orbit polisher.

I've tried a clay bar thinking it was tree sap but no change.

TIA.

The only way to get rid of sand sparkle is a new windshield.

Is this a factory windshield or an aftermarket one? I had an aftermarket one on a car once and it pitted all to hell.

I've used this before to buy some time before eventual replacement and yes it was on a Safelite replacement. Went with a Carlite (Ford) on the 2nd replacement and its held up a lot better.
