How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking to buy a new 2023 truck in the next month.
Which New Truck & Why

Chevy 1500 LT (loaded) or RST (standard level trim)
Ford F150 XLT (loaded) or Lariat (standard level trim)
Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie

V8 or V6 gas engine - 2wd (No 4 wheel drive)
Leather Seats - If possible
Sticker price of $60K to $62K
After dealer discounts, looking to pay around $50K to $52K + TTL + Warranty

All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks...

At the trims you mentioned, F-150 Lariat w/3.5 Boost. You'll get more features than the LT/RST, and the boost is a better engine than the 5.0 (coming from a 5.0 owner).

I like the way the Rams look, but everyone I know that has gotten a new one has had a lot of gremlins and fit/finish issues.

If you're willing to go up to LTZ in the Chevy, would consider that with a duramax

GMC Sierra SLT with the 3.0. 59,500 OTD for mine recently. Sticker was 62,200

When shopping I've found a few dealer are coming a good deal off of MSRP. There are number though who are still trying to cling to MSRP or close to it, be prepared to laugh at those people and shop around.

Should be able to do a Chevy LTZ for a bit less.

1. F150 Powerboost - 3.5 with 7200 watts onboard power generation, plus added HP and Torque for towing or just passing people on the highway. Ford give you the best value in technology. Base Lariat is the perfect package for the price. Best towing and payload capacity.
2. F-150 V8 Tremor because it just looks badass and the V8 is solid.
3. Tundra 4x4 Limited or 1794 because I expect it to last for many many miles. But they look weak and rude low to the ground. Put a 3" lift and larger tires. Then then look badass.
4. GMC AT4 for the same reason I like the Tremor. Only reason it's 4 is because GMC seats suck and are uncomfortable. And they have a hump in the back seat floor.
5. GMC Sierra SLT with the newish 3.0 Duramax.
6. I don't do dodge. Bad experiences with older generations. I guess maybe their diesels but gassers I just avoid. They also handle like crap compared to Ford and GM.

F-450 KR or Platty for the turning radius.

I Currently drive a 2015 Chevy 1500 loaded High Country.
8 years old in November & has 105,000 miles, worth about $20K for trade-in maybe.
Bought new - Sticker $50K & Purchased for $40K + TTL

The top of the line chevy High Country has way more stuff on it that I never use.

Question:

Ford F150 XLT vs Ford F150 Lariat -- Which one would you buy & why.

XLT. Not worth paying 15k for leather seats. That's the route I went. Have a screen with Apple CarPlay and heated seats. That's all the amenities I need.

Are dealers coming off Sticker by $10k? I haven't seen that.

This thread went exactly as expected. Ferd! Ignore the decade long cam phaser cluster**** across multiple engines that they now refuse to warranty, or that they can be broken into in under 15 seconds. GMC has a hump *gasp* under the backseat and Ram's have gremlins!

it had been a few days since the last truck debate thread, good to see the board isn't slipping

Gremlins that like to set things on fire.

The V8 5.0 in the ford is one of the best engines ever made. Personally I still don't trust turdbos.

That's quite the superlative... even for this board

What would you ask for your current truck? My sister is looking for something bigger/more comfortable than her Tacoma

Admittedly, its a bad one. Should have kept it to myself.

I think most Ford mechanics would recommend the V8 5.0, its been around forever and is reliable. The turbos are relatively new, still working through issues.

Not to hijack, but I am about to sell my 2012 5.0 V8 F150 Lariat with 150K miles on it. Sterling Gray Metallic, black leather interior, heated/cooled seats, navigation, 4x4, 36 gallon tank, hinged cover on the truck bed. Looking to probably list for $18,500 or so but would do $17,500 for TexAgs buyer. In Dallas. Feel free to PM or email at username at gmail if she has any interest. Replacing windshield and molding over driver side rear tire before I list.

yes they did. the 5.0 sounds better. but, the 3.5 boost is far better towing truck. my went from the 5.0 to the 3.5 towing the same camper and its night and day.

I'm not brand loyal. I've owned Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Ram, Infiniti, Acura, etc...But my worst reliability issues, by a mile, were the Ford vehicles (infiniti a close second). I've had my best luck with Toyota and Chevy. I've put a lot of miles on a couple Tahoes, and Silverados, with hardly an issue.

Im sure some posters will have stories about their Chevy/GM. And others with Ram. Some family members of mine will only buy Ford.

You'll find anecdotal evidence for almost any brand.

My biggest issue with Chevy/GMC, is that you have to go to one of the highest trim levels for the full center console in the Silverado.

I absolutely love heated/ventilated seats.

Way more "worth it" to me than all the suggestions about max towing packages.

I assume OP is doing mainly on road driving and no heavy towing since he is going for a 2WD.

Lariat with a 2.7 and no sunroof is the most cost effective option for a non-towing road truck.

A quick search shows a number for sale within 100 miles of B/CS. MSRP + delivery right around $59k

No idea what a dealer would actually sell one for these days

A boosted 5.0 is the best half ton truck engine imo, but they really need a TVS or twin screw style blower to make low rpm torque. My 6.2L Silverado has great low rpm torque but the HP leaves a lot to be desired compared to my old boosted 5.0L. Had an ecoboost and it spent a lot of time in the shop. No experience with Ram, but I've had a 5.7L Charger and currently have a 6.4L Challenger and both have been reliable and torquey. I would have bought a Ram last time around if they offered the 6.4L in the half ton.

Had them all. Started buying Rams back in the late '80s when they went to the Peterbilt look. Was ranching at the time and always bought a one ton diesel, which was a helluva truck. Never had a problem.

Retired now and have been buying half ton Rams with the hemi. Love them. Had a brief flirtation with F150 eco -boost but almost got killed getting on the freeway. I returned to the hemi.

I have the Longhorn addition. I would put the interior up against any vehicle's interior. Extremely comfortable to drive. Our preferred means of travel on any trip. Before you go buy something drive a Ram. Then go to your local livestock auction barn and see what the boys are driving. No Tundras even though the pavement princess will last…on pavement. Surprisingly few GMC because they will not survive a pasture. Good many Fords but a whole lot of Rams. The boys know. Good luck

New?! I put over 90k miles on a 2015 Navigator with a 3.5 boost - zero issues. I have an additional 66k miles on a 2016 Navigator - same engine, no problems. These are now 7-8 year old vehicles. How many years does something have to be out to not be considered new? There's nothing magical or cutting edge about turbos - we've had 'em a long time.

On a different note, be advised the Consumer Reports recommends skipping the 2023 year model for the F150. Given how bad the GM trucks have been, you can either give Ram a shot or consider a Titan, which will be the most reliable and should be discounted off MSRP quite a bit.

I can do cloth with no butt blowers, but I'll never buy leather again without it.

I didn't read the whole thread, but damn have prices gone up!

I drive a 2019 GMC SLT 4WD that had an MSRP of ~56K and I paid about $48K (new). I will admit that the whole COVID/chip shortage thing happened after that but damn!.

I have just over 40k miles on the same rig now and I don't foresee a change in the near future.

I just bought a 2023 Ram 1500 Bighorn Crew Cab 4x4 for 10k off sticker. It takes some work but it is done.
